Besedka Johnson, who became an actress at age 85 and won praise for her only movie “Starlet,” has died. She was 87.
“Besedka showed that no age is too old to do what you dream,” said her co-star, Dree Hemingway, in a statement. “I loved her dearly.”
Johnson got the part after an executive producer for the movie asked her in a YMCA locker room if she’d be interested in auditioning, according to the Associated Press.
Starlet was released in November, 2012. It starred Hemingway along with Besedka and explores the unlikely friendship between a floundering 21 year-old and a lonely and caustic old widow. (Watch the trailer below.)
