Prison Arts Project Changes Women’s Lives

woman's sculpture in ColoradoAuburn University has provided the teaching staff and partial funding since 2004 for the Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project, teaching rigorous creative writing, literature and arts classes to convicts in a range of prisons across the state.

APAEP not only helps the prisoners find a sense of self-worth – vital to reducing recidivism – but also helps them make better use of their time while incarcerated.

“Invest in people,” says the founder Kyes Stevens, “and you’d be surprised – the effects are endless.”
