Some of Georgia's homeless begin crying when they see her. Now 94 years old, "Mary Hughes declares, unconvincingly, that she hopes to retire this year" from her lifelong passion for handing out clothes and blankets to the homeless, which have earned her honors from four Georgia governors and two presidents. Last week, an amazingly colorful array of Arab princes and Muslim clerics came together with representatives of the world's major faiths in Madrid. While the Western media generally failed to appreciate the magnitude of the event, the Arab media understood how important it really was. Not only was this the first international multi-faith conference ever initiated by an Arab Muslim leader, it was inaugurated by the king of the Muslim world's heartland, Saudi Arabia, where the most conservative Muslim outlook prevails.

An Australian pest controller who got lost in the desert while
prospecting for gold survived by turning to the bugs he
usually kills -- and eating them. Theo Rosmulder, 52, managed to stay
alive in the harsh West Australian desert for five days before giving up, just as rescuers found him thanks to Aboriginal trackers.

As one of five non-governmental organizations invited to help distribute food in North Korea, the head of Samaritan's Purse Christian relief agency arrived yesterday in the country to meet with government officials and visit relief sites.
"In response to floods in North Korea last August, Samaritan's Purse chartered a 747 cargo jet from Charlotte to deliver $8.3 million in medicine and other emergency supplies. It was the first private flight directly from the U.S. to North Korea since the Korean War, according to the statement." (The Charlotte Observer)

British opposition leader David Cameron has been reunited with his
stolen bicycle —thanks in large part to a supporter of the rival Labor
Party. "You never want to see anyone have their bike nicked (stolen) — not even a Tory," said the 60 year-old staunch rival who helped find the bike with the help of local youth. (Read the full story from Associated Press on MSNBC)
