Last weekend while a homeless man was drinking in an alley he and other transients witnessed a Cadillac hitting a nine year old girl head-on. They jumped up and ran to help, miraculously lifting the 5,000 pound car off of her tiny body. He even credited his Navajo heritage with saving her life, as he chanted for her, "Please don't leave us, be with us, be well, be well." (KOAT.com) |

The first time Doris Barton phoned me, I was having a bad day... I probably answered by barking my name like a perturbed Jack Russell terrier. Undeterred, she said, "I just want to tell you reading your column makes my day." ... Doris had me at hello after that. This retired lady rang me, maybe, once a month over the past five years, and her message was almost always affirming: "You're getting better and better" or "you're really going great, girl."... |

Taking up a nightly habit to think of three good things that happened during their day and analyzing why they occurred, worked so well for people's overall happiness that researchers are beginning to concede the notion that happiness can be a learned behavior.
