Google is celebrating the 132nd birthday of Gideon Sundback, a Swedish engineer who perfected the zipper.
An interactive doodle running down the center of the search engine's homepage, honors the development of the fastening device that revolutionised the clothing industry.
Sundback patented the "Separable Fastener" in 1917 during his employment for the Universal Fastener Company in New Jersey.
Born on April 24, 1880, in Småland, Sweden, he emigrated at age 25 to the US, where he started work as an engineer at Westinghouse.
