The number of Britons out of work fell at the fastest pace in nearly a year in the three months to March, official data showed on Wednesday, pointing to some underlying resilience in the economy.
The number of people claiming jobless benefit unexpectedly fell last month by 13,700—the largest drop since July 2010. (Analysts had forecast an increase of 5,000 on the month.)
Reuters also reports that about 750,000 British households were lifted out of fuel poverty in 2010 due to rising incomes among consumers and lower consumption following the roll out of energy efficient boilers, helped by stable energy prices, the government said.
