A Florida police officer was taking a routine report at an animal shelter, when he locked eyes with an abandoned puppy with a story that tugged on his heart.
Officer Marcus Montgomery was wrapping up his investigation when a worker at the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) walked in with the tiny dog. The officer insisted on snuggling with the pup.

When he learned the little guy had come to the shelter after spending the night abandoned in sub-freezing temperatures, the image of it crying alone in a box moved Montgomery to become a foster parent to the puppy.

The little dog will join the police officer, his girlfriend, and their other rescue dog — Vader — and will take on the new name of ‘Kylo’, a Star Wars character that may also be destined for a turnaround in fortune.
