do-not-call.gifWith recorded telemarketing calls on the rise, make sure that your U.S. mobile phone number and home numbers are protected from unwanted solicitors with the help of the government’s Do Not Call Registry. The National Do Not Call Registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency.

You can register your home or mobile phone for free.  It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five years. You must call from the phone number you want blocked (toll-free, 888-382-1222) or you can file it online at www.DoNotCall.gov.

Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. Only companies you have personally done business with, political organizations, charities and and telephone surveyors are allowed to use the number. Get more answers to questions about the registry here.
