EDITOR'S BLOG — A perfect example of the Law of Attraction was presented to me last night when my new neighbor came to our door sullen and cross. In spring when we introduced ourselves to Alan, standing in a woodland between our homes, he mentioned with pride that he was going to install a security system in his cabin, which is at the end of a gravel road, a half mile from the main street. I was surprised that he'd assumed such a location would need security and explained that in 15 years I'd had no trouble here. "The only thing that'll bring crime down this road is you installing a security system."...
Poor Alan. It doesn't bode well for the future. What would be your reaction? If you were in our family, would you suddenly begin to lock your doors, stop leaving your car keys in the ignition, or move the unprotected go cart from the driveway? Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? Comments (10)

Well, I certainly wouldn't do anything like Alan did that would visibly advertise "YOO HOO, THERE ARE VALUABLES HERE!" But the "Law of Attraction" doesn't work in inverse (i.e., denial doesn't remove the negative consequence) so I'd certainly take low-effort and low-profile precautions that weren't quite so provocative to the criminal mind, like locking doors, taking the car keys with me, and at least putting the go cart in a shed or garage. I "believe" in the "Law of Attraction" to a certain extent, but not enough to either use it as a fulcrum for blame or to ignore the influence of larger influences like the economy or just random chance. |

Well, without any reference to the law of attarction there are two opposite ideas: - it's easier for a rubber to introduce when there is a lot of security system... - it's more interesting for a rubber to introduce in a place where there are a lot of security systems... because you will not buy securtity systems that costs more that what they are supposed to protect... so the more securty systems has a place, the more what's it's inside is expensive and attractive... So by instaling high security systems, you risk to be stolen by professional rubbers instead of amateurs... for me the best seems to be having no less and no more protection than other places in the neighbourhood! |

geri, I do believe in the Law of Attraction but sometimes bad things happen to good people, regardless. For example, six years ago we bought a house in a wonderful and safe neighborhood. I checked the crime report for this neighborhood from the Sheriff's Office and there had only been minor things stolen like someone's lawnmower and a couple of tools from an open garage several years earlier. Within the first two weeks, my husband's old bike was stolen from our garage at dinner time. Yes, our garage door was open and it faces the side of the house (we live on a corner), so we couldn't see a thing. It was not expected at all and we were disheartened so we paid a little more attention to keeping our garage door closed but were still fairly lax about it. Then, about 2 years ago, the "new" used car we had purchased barely a year prior to that was stolen right from our driveway during the night! Even though we have a 2-car garage, we had been keeping our cars locked up in our driveway. We didn't see a need for us to keep them locked up INSIDE the garage. This was a safe neighborhood. Well, I have to tell you, since then, my husband and I keep our cars locked in the garage and I'm much more aware of making sure our garage door is closed. This really shook up both of us. We had all the necessary insurance but no theft insurance. :( Now, I even lock the car itself even though its in a locked garage. So, yes, if I was your family and this happened, I would be more cautious and most certainly, would never leave my keys in the ignition!! That's one thing the police asked us (was the car locked? keys in the ignition?). To me, that's attracting temptation since now thieves have previewed your neighborhood and might see a "good thing" and have noticed how lax everyone is about security in your area. Might be a prime target for them. There's an old adage: "Better safe than sorry." In our case, I have to say we didn't attract these thieves. Although our "new" used car apparently did...it was an older make/model which apparently is highly wanted and used by car thieves to steal and then sell the parts. We just bought it because we needed the a/c (we live in FL) and our old car's a/c had been out for years. Ironically, within a couple of weeks of buying that used car, the a/c broke and we couldn't afford to fix it. lol But, that's another story. |

No worries. My feelings aren't hurt. :) And, I realized when I wrote what I did that you would pick up on it. My question to you then, is: when you look for a job, when you look for a place to live, do you not consider the advantages and disadvantages of the job, the company, the co-workers? Or do you simply ignore the disadvantages (or crime) in the area and move in anyway? As a mother who has never lived in a neighborhood before (I grew up on a small farm with only 1 neighbor and lots of land around us), I felt it was my obligation to check out all information about where we bought our first home. I took into account everything; schools, surrounding area as well as the neighborhood itself. If I didn't have children, I probably would never have checked the crime report. My son's safety is first and foremost. :) I really do understand the Law of Attraction but I find it difficult as a human being to follow it absolutely. I feel it is very difficult for most of us to do so, even though we strive towards it. And, I can believe in it and not fully follow it nor completely understand it as well. As most do when they follow their God (the Divine), they don’t fully understand his/her’s reasons for everything but they believe in him/her. Now, I can pose similar questions to you: If you believe in the Law of Attraction, then do you keep your children from wearing helmets when they ride their bikes? Or, do you not use your seat belts in a car? Or, do you eat that steak that’s been in the fridge for one too many days? Attaching this Law of Attraction to absolutely everything is fascinating and by doing so, you can have great philosophical discussions as we are now. :) Since I live in a hurricane-prone state, I prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I don't live in fear because I am prepared. Should I not prepare for an emergency? On a simpler note, should I not prepare for my child’s education by putting money away in a savings account? So,..yes, sometimes I am confused about the Law of Attraction and you know what? That's ok. We all are if we look at every single occurrence in our lives from this perspective. It's mind-boggling! lol Again, this is a great philosophical discussion, one that could go on forever and has gone on forever. :) It’s interesting, perplexing and wondrous! And the tangents of conversations and discussions on this matter and beyond are never-ending. Oh, and yes, I listen to Abraham's talks on www.hayhouseradio.com. Another wonderful good news site! :) Dr. Wayne Dyer speaks of this as well as many, many others who seem to find further and deeper layers to this Law in our human existence. Oh and you mentioned above: "My understanding of the Law is that NOTHING can enter my life that is not a match to my vibration (created by my thoughts AND feelings)." Have you thought about why you brought this certain neighbor into your life then? and hence, this crime into your neighborhood? Now, there's something to think about. |
