fishoilsAfter a dramatic recovery from serious brain injury experienced by the first patient Dr. Michael Lewis treated with fish oil, the physician urged its use again, this time on a brain-dead Virginia boy in a coma.

Fish oil is composed of omega-3 essential fatty acids, and our brain itself is a fatty mass made up of 30% omega-3 fatty acids. So it is not surprising that the boy’s brain responded to the treatment, which was likened to rebuilding a brick wall using bricks.

“In my opinion, and this is pure speculation, (the boy) never would have come out of a coma if it hadn’t been for the use of omega-3s to allow that natural healing process to occur,” said Lewis, founder of the Brain Health Education and Research Institute.

The implications of a successful research study are huge: 1.7 million people suffer a traumatic brain injury each year in the United States.
