Virginia governor Tim Kaine enacted a law yesterday that ensures teenagers and their parents have the right to refuse medical treatments for ailments such as cancer and seek alternative therapies "so long as they have considered all other medical options." Kaine declared: "This is significant for health freedom in Virginia." (WTOP News)

An Australian man noticed a serving tractor-trailer truck on the other side of the road on his way to work. He turned his car around sped up to the truck and confirmed his suspicion that the driver was in trouble -- slumped over the wheel. He parked his car, ran toward the truck and climbed inside it to pull the hand brake. An ambulance officer called to the scene said....

Instead of a planned new golf course and 100 luxury homes, an expanse of rolling hills, wetlands and scenic waters have been preserved as public parkland through the purchase of one of the last large, privately held open spaces in the New York City metropolitan area. Governor George E. Pataki yesterday announced the purchase of 575 acres from developers and its reunification with the adjacent Sterling Forest State Park in Orange County...
