An area the size of Wales’ is frequently used to measure the rate of forest destruction.
Welsh-born comedian Dan Mitchell is bringing people together to help protect an area of rainforest at least this size and is assembling Welsh tribes from all over the country to do it.
“We aim to turn that negative use of the country’s size on its head, by encouraging the people of Wales to take positive action and help protect an area of rainforest equivalent to the size of our nation.”
To start, Mitchell made a lively video with a group of kids and set up a Facebook page. For each “Like” logged on their page, the Size of Wales group will receive £1 toward their goal. Each £1 will protect an area of rainforest the size of a rugby pitch.
So far they have raised £508,452 and helped protect 508,452 hectares of rainforest.
The website, at SizeOfWales.org, allows you to start your own “tribe” and the group with the most members and rainforest saved will be rewarded.
