Thousands of school kids will score a full, four-year college scholarship with an assist from basketball superstar LeBron James.
James announced he’s giving the academic scholarships to all 1,100 kids currently in his “I Promise” program — another 1,200 students are expected to be eligible when the scholarships take effect.

— LeBron James (@KingJames) August 13, 2015His foundation will start covering tuition costs for students entering the University of Akron in Ohio in 2021 — when this year’s seventh graders have graduated high school. The cost for four years at the university is about $34,000 per student.

Kids will have to maintain academic and attendance standards set by the LeBron James Family Foundation’s I Promise Program. James has been sponsoring the program for five years to promote academics and physical fitness for young people.
