Siberian percussion group Ethnobeat aren’t famous for waling on any ordinary drums – the foursome are renowned for beating out funky grooves using only a frozen lake as their instrument.

Lake Baikal is the deepest and largest freshwater lake in the world – it also becomes a fantastic set of bongos in cold weather. With temperatures averaging at -4º Farenheit (-20º Celsius), the ice freezes to roughly one meter thick.

But when these Russians start slapping the lake’s chilly surfaces, it’s hard not to marvel at how much it sounds like a steel drum’s tropical beats.
