Tim Tebow Tebowing-CC-ClemedA group of high school students wanted to lift the spirits of their friends who had survived a deadly automobile accident over the weekend that killed two others in the car. Their goal, to get two celebrities to call the hospital, has once again proven the power of social media.

Within an hour the football star Tim Tebow learned of the kids’ Tweets, and the hashtag #TebowCallMatt that began nationally trending on Twitter.

Still in his Albany, New York hospital bed, Matt Hardy received a call from the famed good-guy quarterback, Tebow.

“It was very uplifting for him after he’d been apart of a very tragic situation,” Matt’s mom told a News10 reporter. “He’d been a fan of Tim Tebow’s for the longest time, so it put a smile on his face.”

And apparently, Matt made an impression on Tebow as well.

“Thanks to everyone who got #TebowCallMatt trending & helped connect us. Matt truly inspired me. God bless y’all,” tweeted Tebow.

A second hashtag, #MissyCallBailey, also landed a phone call — this time from Olympic swimmer, Missy Franklin for Ms. Bailey Wind who is also recovering in the hospital.

“Called Bailey and left her a voicemail. Would still love to talk to her. Bailey and her community are in my thoughts and prayers #staystrong,” she said via Twitter.
