solarsail.jpgGiant solar-powered sails will be fitted to cargo ships, after an Australian renewable energy company signed a deal with China’s biggest shipping line. The Solar Sailor group will retro-fit the aluminium sails covered with photovolatic panels to existing tankers to harness the wind, cutting fuel costs between 20 and 40 per cent, while using the sun to provide 5% of the ship’s electricity.
