27 years ago today, Legoland California, the first LEGO theme park outside Europe, opened in Carlsbad. It has over 60 rides, shows, and attractions, plus a water park, an aquarium and two hotels. Key themed areas rely on long-used LEGO set themes, including Dino Valley, Pirate Shores, Castle Hill, Miniland USA, and Adventure Land. Miniland USA is a particularly striking attraction, as it boats 1:20 scale dioramas built in LEGO of famous US places, such as New Orleans, Manhattan island, the National Mall, and the Las Vegas Strip.
