A record number of women will serve in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives after sweeping victories in Tuesday’s election.
Five new women elected from diverse backgrounds to the Senate will boost the total number of female lawmakers in the upper chamber to a historic level – twenty of 100.
Even with some outcomes still undecided, at least 81 of the 435 members of the House of Representatives will also be women.
Leslie Booker began her career in the fashion industry but exchanged the runway for a juvenile detention center in the Bronx. As a dedicated yoga instructor, she is busy changing the lives of incarcerated teenagers.

The receipt is in the envelope and all you have to do is go by Warehouse Tire on 3rd Street and ask for Steven Hodges and they will be put on for free.”
The note ended: “All I ask is that one day you do something nice for a complete stranger.”

A woman whose $23-million lottery ticket was gathering dust inside a glove compartment finally realized she might have been a winner and claimed it five months later — just before the deadline came.
Julie Cervera told reporters at a news conference Friday that she was in financial straits when she found the ticket. Now, she plans to use the winnings to help her family.
