Each Tuesday night, the Sharewood project, funded and run entirely by medical students, provides care for neighbors in need, offering free check-ups, health advice and vaccines.
“We find time because this is why we went to medical school… The health system is broken, and there are a lot of people falling through the cracks,” said one student.

The owners of the Penny Ice Creamery in Santa Cruz got a telephone call from Vice President Joe Biden last week. He wanted to call and thank them for making a YouTube video about how federal stimulus dollars helped them build a new business and hire dozens of people in the process.
They had a dream of opening an ice cream shop that would sell homemade ice cream flavors. With a loan from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, they designed, built and staffed their new shop, which opened two months ago.
Biden, who said he loved ice cream and wanted to visit the shop soon, also invited the business owners to the White House, and said their store was a “template” for how the Obama administration envisioned the stimulus funds being spent.

One month later when it was put up for auction in London, it sold for a record $69 million (plus fees) and was called “unbelievably rare, with nothing like it outside the Palace Museum in Beijing.”
Even though the intricate porcelain vase was fired in the kilns of a Chinese Emperor around 1740, the family was told the piece was worthless, according to the Sun newspaper, when they took it to an Antiques Roadshow-style show, Going For a Song, 40 years ago.
“If only this had happened 30 years ago,” exclaimed the woman, who had to recover outdoors once the gavel came down and the final price rang in the air.

With a name like General Electric, it stands to reason GE would want to embrace the electric car.
Thursday the company announced plans to embrace 25,000 of them with a pledge to convert half of its corporate fleet by 2015.
The first mass-market electric cars are expected to go on sale next month, including the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf.
