The practice of slicing off a shark’s fins has exploded worldwide due to demand from China, where shark fin soup is considered a delicacy.

Shark fin soup has been banned in recent years in Hawaii, despite the vocal Asian community there.

The delicacy has also been banned in China itself at several luxury hotels and popular restaurants.
