Video footage of a fireman giving oxygen to a pigeon following a fire has gone viral on social media.
After attending to a vehicle fire on Wednesday evening, the E29 crew of Oakland Firefighters noticed a pigeon in distress.
“The crew reported, the pigeon came up to them seeking help.
The bird seemed to have suffered some smoke inhalation during the East Oakland vehicle fire, so the crew administered some oxygen.
“The bird soon flew away after clearing out its lungs,” said the Facebook page for Oakland Firefighters Local 55.
Many people don’t realize pigeons are domesticated, and they’re used to being around humans, said some of the post’s commenters.

“We domesticated pigeons—they come to us for help because we trained them to,” wrote Katherine Linville. “Sweet little birds.”
“The trust that pigeon has for him… It knows the man is a life saver,” wrote Taj-Ma R. Carter. “They watch us closely and know us well.”
“Humans and pigeons had bonds,” added Mai Caroline. “They’re ridiculously smart creatures.”
