Monday, the Easton-Bell sporting goods company commemorated the one year anniversary of Sandberg’s injury, which left him in a coma for two months, by gifting him with a prototype of a “pitchers helmet” inspired by Sandberg’s near fatal accident. The lightweight helmet might be on store shelves by year’s end.
