hawaiian-airlines-plane.jpgWhen you’re traveling this holiday season, you can enjoy free WiFi at 47 participating airports and on every Virgin America flight now through January 15, 2010.

Thanks to Google and its wireless partners, loggin-in during holiday travel will be free at airports around the country including Las Vegas, Houston, Boston, Baltimore, Burbank, Houston, Indianapolis, Seattle, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, St. Louis and Charlotte. Additionally, as a result of this project, Burbank and Seattle airports will begin offering airport-wide free WiFi indefinitely.

Over 100 million people will pass through the participating airports between now and January 15, 2010. See the full list of airports at FreeHolidayWifi.com.

Due to bad weather and other extenuating circumstances, travelers often have extra time on their hands and Google hopes that free WiFi will ease travel headaches and make connecting with friends and family a little bit easier. All passengers on Virgin America will also receive free in-flight WiFi.

When travelers log-on they will be given the opportunity to “pay it forward” in the spirit of the season. They can make a charitable donation to any of these three non-profit groups and Google will match the donations up to $250,000: Engineers Without Borders, the One Economy Corporation or the Climate Savers Computing Initiative. Further, the airport network that generates the most donations by January 1, will receive $15,000 to donate to the local nonprofit of their choice.

The 47 airports together handle about 35% of the total number of annual passengers in the U.S.
