garbageman returns gift card-FoxNewsvid

A sanitation worker in Colorado returned a Christmas present to a family who accidentally threw it out. And they rewarded his honesty in a way that really touched his life.

“I was just dumping the cart in the back of the truck and seen the card on top of the pile of trash,” garbage man Jimmy James told Fox News. He checked the card by phone to see if it had a balance and found it was brand new.

The family couldn’t believe that someone would take the time to drive back on their own time and personally return the card.

They gave him a cash thank-you worth more than the card.

  1. As a Coloradan myself, I’m proud of this young man for doing the right thing! As citizens of this beautiful state we pride ourselves on our warm, friendly and kind attitude so Mr. James’s honorable act didn’t come as a huge surprise to me. A few weeks ago I had some work done on my motorcycle and when the bill was presented to me, it was nearly $40.00 too low. For me it was a no brainer to point this mistake out to the employee (I suspected he would have to pay for his clerical error when they tallied the day’s receipts) but he seemed rather surprised at my honesty. It felt great to do the right thing and another customer spoke up about karma and the good or bad that can result from your actions. Besides, I’d much rather have a clear conscience than the money anyway. How would I have felt about myself knowing that there was a 99% chance that the employee had to hand over $40.00 of his own money because I was a cheater? Well done Jimmy! You’re a good man!

  2. Great story, Kevin. Thanks for sharing.

I think people become more likely to do the honest things when they see or hear other people doing it! (I think there is a study that showed that.)

Last year I realized a big sliced ham was under my cart, and brought it back in the store to pay for it. FELT GOOD! 🙂
