Kia Motors America Achieves All-Time Record Sales With U.S. Made Cars

Unprecedented growth continued for Kia Motors America in May with the brand posting its best-ever monthly sales of 48,212 units – a 53 percent increase from May 2010, and a 2.4-percent increase over the previous record set last month.

The Korean car company’s year-to-date sales in the U.S. are up 44 percent over last year, boosted in part by a vehicle built in America, its best-selling Sorento.

Kia Motors America distributes its vehicles through more than 640 dealers throughout the United States. For 2008, KMA recorded its 14th consecutive year of increased U.S. market share. In August 2009, Kia was the 8th-best selling automotive brand in the United States, outselling even Chrysler.

In November 2009, Kia started production at the first U.S. Kia Motors plant, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia in West Point. The facility is building the popular Kia Sorento crossover vehicle and is scheduled to begin production this fall of the company’s first hybrid, the 2012 Optima, which is rated to get 40 miles to a gallon of gas.
