The world’s oldest person as acknowledged by the Guinness World Records turned 117 last Friday
Ethel Caterham was born in the United Kingdom on August 21st, 1909, when the great-great grandfather of the current king was sitting on the nation’s throne.

She was the 7th of 8 children, and told ABC News in an emailed statement that she attributes her longevity to a “nonconfrontational” attitude in life; never arguing, while rarely compromising.
“Thank you for all of the kind birthday wishes,” said told the American network. “Even at 117, I’ve had many firsts this year, from stroking a llama to holding hands with the King! I’ve had a lovely day celebrating with my family and friends, and I look forward to seeing what next year brings!”
She has outlived her husband by 50 years, as well as her two daughters, and today enjoys the care and company of 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In her youth she loved travel, and worked as a nanny for a British family living in India. The work allowed her 3 years to explore the subcontinent where she met her husband Norman, a major in the British Army.
She becomes the oldest person alive after a Brazilian nun, Inah Canabarro Lucas, passed away at 116.
