Luckily, this 27-year-old was taking a break at work on a slow Monday in Minnesota—because his actions, jumping on a moving school bus, saved 18 students and their bus driver.

Ebro Ahmed, an Eritrean-American, had stepped outside of Ya Bricks Snacks and Tobacco in St. Paul’s Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood when a public schools bus from Battle Creek Middle School rolled past with its doors open.

He saw the driver having what appeared to be a seizure while the bus was still moving. Ebro ran toward the bus, jumped through the open doors, and managed to pull the parking brake.

He then called police and stayed with the driver to keep him from choking or hitting his head until paramedics arrived—and the whole thing was captured on the store’s surveillance camera.

Ebro has no medical training, but credits watching Grey’s Anatomy for helping him to stay calm—even when he couldn’t stop shaking from the adrenaline.

Asked about the risk, he said: “Even if I were to die, it would still be worth it.”

He says his only focus was protecting the kids.
