After hearing the shocking figure that up to 40 percent of produce goes to waste in the fields, Christy Porter founded an ingenious organization that not only employs the working poor, but rescues the leftover produce in farmers’ fields putting it to good use feeding the hungry.
From its headquarters in Coachella, California, Hidden Harvest, serves those who can’t afford fresh produce, especially seniors, by redistributing surplus fresh fruits and vegetables at free farmers markets.
Hidden Harvest has also now become part of the Clinton Global Initiative.
