Even though Brenda Jones had been on the organ donor wait list for over a year, she didn’t mind waiting a little longer if it meant keeping a young woman from dying.

Doctors at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas received a liver donation while Brenda and 23-year-old Abigail Flores were both waiting for a transplant – however Abigail wouldn’t last more than a few days if she didn’t get a replacement organ fast.

So they asked the 69-year-old if she was willing to give up the transplant so Abigail could live, to which Brenda didn’t hesitate to say yes.

“In my heart, I wouldn’t have been able to live with the liver if I had let this little girl die,” Jones told WFAA. “And I still had more time … I would have been a very selfish person.”

Abigail’s father got to meet Brenda after she saved his daughter’s life and gave her a hug while crying out a heartfelt thank you.

However Brenda’s kindness paid off when another liver for the elderly woman came in a few days after she gave up the original organ.
