Michael Brown returned to his Houston home two weeks ago to waist-deep water throughout the house, and his possessions floating listlessly around him.

Although dismayed, he affirmed that his family was safe, and that was the most important thing.

“That’s the main thing because I think all this material stuff can be replaced,” he told the Associated Press.

Just then, he found his wife’s engagement ring floating in a box, a keepsake that was bought long ago.

The moment was likely the perfect sign that he was on the right track by “keeping his spirits up”.
