Business is good for this clever Colorado fifth grader after she launched an amusing new sales scheme for her Girl Scout cookies.

Charlotte Holmberg is a Top Cookie CEO from Highlands Ranch who has been going viral for her Samoa marketing strategy.

Charlotte earned her CEO title in recognition of her impressive cookie sales history – and this year is no exception.

As a means of encouraging consumers to buy her cookies, she has been printing out pictures of Jason Momoa with the classic Girl Scout Cookie packaging and gluing them onto the front of her Samoa boxes.

She and her mother first got the idea for the “Momoa” cookies after they saw photoshopped pictures of the Aquaman actor on social media which depicted the shirtless star on the front of the coconut treat packaging.

Since launching their specialized cookie line, the “Momoas” have apparently been very successful.

“The moms are getting really excited and they’re saying that they need them,” Charlotte told KUSA.

In addition to parents asking to use the strategy, Charlotte’s fellow Girl Scouts have been asking to participate in the “Momoa” sales as well.

Though Charlotte has not yet disclosed her sales figures for the strategy, other imaginative Girl Scouts have cornered a slice of the cookie market by taking advantage of the chilly Midwestern weather by selling “pre-frozen” Thin Mints in 16ºF temperatures.

  1. It’s a shame a teachable moment was lost. This is a copyright violation as Jason owns his image. Just because it was found on the internet doesn’t make it “free.” The proper thing to do would have been to contact him and ask his permission to use his image. Likewise tracking down the person who photoshopped this image and asking their permission. (I doubt they asked permission of Momoa to photoshop his image either.)

This is a very bad precedent. It is a shame the Girl Scouts have lost the opportunity to teach about copyright, intellectual property and more importantly, some information literacy regarding the internet. Do they not include copyright and information literacy in whatever badge they can earn regarding the internet?

  2. I found this a bid ironic as well. “The moms are getting really excited and they’re saying that they need them,” Charlotte told KUSA.

Besides, slapping a printed picture on a box copying established social media ideas doesn’t seem to me all that clever. A truly “clever” Girl Scout (and her mom) would have found a way to hand decorate the box to intimate Aqua-man and Jason Mamoa there by being original and avoiding issues pointed out with copyright.
