Internet users can’t help but fall in love with this touching video of an Elvis Presley impersonator reaching out to an older woman last month.

In this heartwarming clip from Caters News Agency, The King can be seen meandering through the aisles of a Walmart in Rogers, Arkansas. With microphone in hand, the impersonator sings Presley’s tune of “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.

At first, the singer jokingly serenades the bald head of a customer, much to the amusement of the other patrons. Then he turns his gaze upon the woman in a motorized shopping cart.

Captivated by The King, the woman tenderly holds his hand as they both sing along to the ballad.

Walmart shopper Don Luper quickly pulled out his phone so he could film the spellbinding exchange.

“It seemed like the lady was taken back in time and was singing to the King himself — it had clearly made her day,” Luper told Caters. “The other customers around me couldn’t believe what they were seeing. They seemed like they were in love with the moment.

“This experience made me think of my own grandma and how much she was a fan of Elvis. It reminded me how much his fans loved him when he was alive and performing his concerts. It was nice to see that the love still exists today in his fans,” says Luper.

After Luper was done filming, Presley gave his blue scarf to the woman, kissed her on the cheek, and she thanked him for the magical moment.

In Landmark Case, South Korean Court Rules That it is Illegal to Kill Dogs for Food

A South Korean court has made a landmark ruling on how it is illegal to kill dogs for their meat – and it could pave the way for a national ban.

Though dog meat consumption in South Korea has been a controversial topic of cultural discussion, the practice has been on the decline. 70% of South Koreans already refuse to eat dog meat thanks to pressure from animal rights activists and Western influences.

Though the nation has not banned dog meat consumption altogether, they have passed smaller laws that force vendors to conform to high standards of hygiene, facility conditions, and animal treatment.

This most recent ruling, however, could be a game-changer. Animal rights organization Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE) took legal action against a dog meat farmer who was accused of maintaining poor hygienic conditions and harming animals “without proper reason.” Though the case took place in April, details of the ruling were only released this week.

In addition to fining and convicting the farmer without an appeal, the court ruled that food was not a proper reason for killing canines.

“It is very significant in that it is the first court decision that killing dogs for dog meat is illegal itself,” said Kim Kyung-eun, a lawyer with CARE, adding that the precedent has “paved the way for outlawing dog meat consumption entirely.”

CARE hopes that the historic decision will soon lead to a national ban on dog meat consumption. Until then, they say that they plan on continuing their efforts to investigate and expose meat farmers who are violating animal rights regulations.

Delivery Man Goes Above and Beyond With a Simple Box to Make Boy’s Dream Come True

An empathetic employee is being hailed for delivering more than just packages to a Mississippi family – more specifically, he went out of his way to deliver a box to a 6-year-old boy.

Wendy Bailey of Rankin County recently made a Facebook post about how her son Brandon had been waiting for their family’s new refrigerator to be delivered to their house so he could use the box to build a fort.

For two weeks, Brandon patiently waited for the exalted delivery. With that mighty cardboard structure, he would be able to fly a spaceship, hide in a secret getaway, traverse the galaxy of the imagination – anything his heart desired.

When the fridge finally arrived, however, there was no box.

The Lowe’s delivery driver felt so bad for the youngster’s heartbreak, he drove all the way back to his store so he could pick up a refrigerator box and bring it back for Brandon.

“He said ‘every little boy needs an awesome box fort!’” wrote Bailey. “Now that’s going above and beyond!”

“There’s one thrilled 6-year-old in my house this morning who also learned an important lesson today about kindness,” she added.

Even if you’re not crazy about sports, the World Cup often brings out the best stories of compassion and international peace.

And this year’s tournament in the Russian city of Sochi is no exception.

For starters, the Japanese fans have made headlines for continuing their practice of respectfully picking up trash and cleaning up stadiums after their games.

 

According to a translation of the video, the Colombian man filming the Japanese fans can be heard praising the nation’s culture and scolding his own people for not following their example.

However, a photo was later published to the World Cup Twitter page depicting Colombian and Mexican fans hoisting up an Egyptian man in a wheelchair so he can watch his team play.

The Egyptian team had been playing against Uruguay when the photo was taken, and despite how the spectators were only watching the game on a screen at the FIFA fan zone in Moscow, they were still more than happy to carry the disabled man on their shoulders.

 

Not to be outdone, the Senegalese fanbase took after the Japanese and started to clean up a stadium after their team’s historic win against Poland.

The World Cup 2018 Twitter page published video of the sweet gesture, saying that it was “the best thing you will see today.”

 

 

Finally, the Mexican fanbase was hailed for winning hearts across the internet when they were photographed handing out sombreros to disabled Russians.

The gesture wasn’t just extended to fans in wheelchairs, either – according to GNN’s Russian correspondent, Timofey Yakovets, the sombreros were basically just being given to any person who shared their love for the World Cup.

Thurman Carthen has been a custodian at the same high school for 13 years. As a passionate and talented singer, he would sometimes take a break from his daily duties to sing happy birthday to a school staff member.

He was unaware, however, that the students paid any attention to his musical abilities – which is why he was so touched that the youngsters asked him to sing at their graduation ceremony.

Carthen was especially emotional over the request because he is retiring from his long career at Galena High School in Reno, Nevada next week.

“This is a great way to end my career,” said the 65-year-old janitor, according to USA Today. “I mean, I help the kids hang up their banners and stuff, but this was really something.”

Carthen sings at his church every Sunday, but this was the first time that he has ever sang to a real crowd – and it’s easy to tell that he savored every minute of it.

As the students can be heard clapping and cheering for his soulful and stirring rendition of the tune, the beloved custodian nails every note. At the end of his performance, the entire stadium gives a standing ovation – which is a fitting sendoff for a man who the school principal describes as “one of the nicest, most sincere people you could ever meet.”

Jimmy Carter Delivers a New Clinic to Small Town That Has Been Without a Physician

A small town in Georgia has been without a practicing physician for almost four months – but thanks to former US president Jimmy Carter, that’s about to change.

Since their medical facility closed back in March, the town of Plains has been without any local healthcare providers.

So as a means of serving his beloved hometown, Carter rallied representatives of the Mercer University School of Medicine to open a new clinic in Plains next month, making it the first rural clinic that is managed by the university.

Dr. Jean Sumner, who is the dean of the School of Medicine, told The Telegraph that Carter “was very involved’’ and “he opened the door” for the entire operation.

According to the university, the Mercer Medicine Plains clinic will offer comprehensive primary care services using local physicians and nurse practitioners as well as specialty care and mental health services through both in-person and telehealth consultation. On-site services will include primary care, internal medicine, OB/GYN, marriage and family therapy and counseling, lab and X-ray.

Telemedicine technology will provide additional access to cardiologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists and all other specialists offered at Mercer Medicine in Macon.

“There is no more challenging profession that that of a rural physician, but there is also no more meaningful role in all of health care,” said Dr. Sumner.

Our faculty, staff and students take our commitment to that mission very seriously, and Mercer Medicine Plains is an excellent model of that mission at work.”

Canada Becomes First Western Nation to Legalize Marijuana

Canada just became the second nation in the world – and the first industrialized nation – to legalize the purchase and consumption of recreational marijuana.

The C-45 bill – also known as the Cannabis Act – passed the Senate in a 52 to 29 vote on Tuesday. The government emphasizes that the legalization will come with strict regulation that will prevent adolescent use and crack down on the illegal drug market.

“It’s been too easy for our kids to get marijuana – and for criminals to reap the profits. Today, we change that. Our plan to legalize & regulate marijuana just passed the Senate,” wrote Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Twitter.

The bill was officially proposed back in December 2017, which prompted several months of research, study, and discussion on the controversial topic. Its “historic” approval officially ends the country’s almost century-long prohibition on the substance.

According to The Star, Senator Tony Dean, who sponsored the bill in the upper house, said: “We have seen in the Senate tonight a historic vote that ends 90 years of prohibition of cannabis in this country, 90 years of needless criminalization, 90 years of a just-say-no approach to drugs that hasn’t worked.”

The first country in the world to nationally legalize the growth, sale and consumption of marijuana was Uruguay in 2013. Canada, however, is the first G7 country to legalize recreational use out of the world’s top industrialized nations, including the US, Japan, Germany, the UK, France, and Italy.

Other nations, such as Iran and Portugal, have simply decriminalized drugs as a means of curbing rates of overdose and addiction (and it worked).

Once the C-45 bill goes into effect in mid-September, Canadian adults 18 years or older will be allowed to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis in public. Marijuana purchases must be made through government-approved vendors that will be regulated by state and province. Laws are also being revised to reflect the consequences and definition of driving while impaired.

“This is an historic milestone for progressive policy in Canada,” tweeted justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould. “This legislation will help protect our youth from the risks of cannabis while keeping profits out of the hands of criminals and organized crime.”

People Are Praising Young Man After He Was Spotted Running After Customer’s Car With Their Order

Jared Wilson is just your average 19-year-old who is being praised for his above-average act of customer service that was caught on camera this week.

One of his coworkers at the Chick-Fil-A branch in Westchester, Virginia had forgotten to include a chicken sandwich in a customer’s order.

But instead of allowing someone to miss out on their lunch, Wilson grabbed the sandwich and dashed across the parking lot towards the customer’s departing car.

“I knew I could probably catch [the customer], so I figured I might as well give it a shot,” Wilson told WTVR.

A passerby who saw the young man hustling across the parking lot filmed the incident, and since WTVR published the smile-worthy clip to their Facebook page, it has already been viewed over 3 million times.

Wilson said that he and his coworkers are especially amused by his viral fame, adding that he could “scroll through comments (on the video) for hours and could not stop laughing.”

In response to viewer inquiries, Wilson says that he did indeed tell the customer that “it was his pleasure” to deliver the sandwich.

Years After Stealing Iconic Clock, Honest Thief Returns It So Detroit Can Rebuild

It has been twenty years since this clock was hanging in its rightful place at Michigan Central Station – but in light of Detroit’s efforts to restore the city to its former glory, the antique recently resurfaced in a heartwarming way.

A well-intentioned thief who has been keeping the clock safe over the years contacted the Henry Ford museum this weekend saying that the timepiece “wanted to go home.”

The anonymous caller told museum staff that they had carefully wrapped up  the clock and left it at an abandoned building for pickup. Museum workers immediately called Ford Motor Land Development Corp – the company that bought the dilapidated station for renovation – and put them in contact with the thief.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the thief texted Dave Dubensky, chairman and CEO of Ford Land, saying: “I only have the clock. No other material. I left it leaning against a burned-out building on Lawton … Please send two men and a truck immediately. It has been missing for over 20 years and is ready to go home.”

When Dubensky thanked them for the tipoff, they simply replied: “Please have them lay it face up in the truck. The paint is very delicate. You can tell the front from the back by looking at the exposed legs.”

True to the thief’s words, two Ford workers went to the described location and found the clock lovingly wrapped up and protected with packing blankets. Once the clock was successfully transported, the thief sent Dubensky another text saying “Thank you so much. I loved that clock and I loved that station.”

Dubensky says that the thief had most likely taken it upon themselves to protect the antique after the train depot closed down in 1988. Since many of the fixtures of the building were stolen following the station’s closure, Ford is grateful for the clock’s return.

Even though the anonymous donor was most likely afraid of being arrested for the incident, Dubensky hopes that their gesture will inspire others to come forward with relics of the city without judgement or fear of legal action.

Fittingly, Ford is unveiling their plans for the station’s renovation at a party today that will take place at the depot itself. 5,000 people are expected to attend.

World’s First Pay-What-You-Can Grocery Store! It Saves Food Otherwise Destined for Trash

The world’s first pay-what-you-can grocery store just opened up in Toronto and the shelves are stocked entirely with food that was destined for a landfill.

The Feed It Forward store “sells” food and ingredients that are donated by larger grocery supply chains who aren’t allowed to sell the products.

The produce is usually salvaged because it’s misshapen or bruised in some way, despite being perfectly edible. Other products are donated because grocery stores aren’t allowed to sell the goods if they are too close to their expiration date, even though they may still have a shelf life for several months to come. Some food is thrown out simply because there is too much warehouse stock to accommodate it.

Customers at Feed It Forward, however, are free to fill up their baskets and pay whatever they can afford. If they don’t have any money, they are still free to take whatever they want; although families are only allowed to take home one day’s worth of food in order to ensure that the store remains stocked. Patrons who can afford to pay for their food also have the option to pay it forward and cover the cost of someone else’s groceries.

The innovative grocery store is the brain child of Chef Jagger Gordon, a renowned Canadian advocate for reducing food waste and feeding the hungry.

Gordon first became inspired to begin the nonprofit initiative back in 2014 when was running his own catering company. Stunned by the amount of food ending up in trash cans, he started opening up popup kitchens across Toronto that exclusively gave away nutritious meals made out of salvaged ingredients.

He made headlines in 2016 for serving over 600 hot meals to hungry city residents on Christmas Eve. In May 2017, he opened a soup bar that became the first pay-what-you-can restaurant in Toronto.

Additionally, the chef is rallying for people to sign a petition that will demand Canadian legislators to change their food laws.

“The concept behind the store is showcasing how Canadians can utilize the food that’s destined for landfills: perfectly edible food that shouldn’t be thrown out and can be filling the empty bellies of our citizens,” Gordon told The Star.

He Rescued a Dazed Woman From Her Car Minutes Before It Explodes

It had been a long day for Donald Carson when he was driving home from work on Sunday.

The off-duty correctional officer had just finished a double shift at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in South Brunswick, New Jersey when he saw a “dazed” woman who had just gotten into a car collision on the highway. More importantly, she was sitting in her vehicle enough though a fire had started under its hood.

“I seen other cars just driving by, so I said, ‘I have to make a decision now,’” Correction Officer Donald Carson told WPIX. “So basically, I just made a U-turn and I approached it and I see her, you know, in shock.”

Carson turned his car around and leapt into action. As he approached the car, he found that the 59-year-old woman had rear-ended a tractor-trailer and her wrist was badly broken.

33-year-old Carson soothed the woman, unbuckled her seatbelt, and scooped her into his arms so he could carry her to a safe distance away from the car. Roughly two minutes later, law enforcement officials arrived on the scene – and the car exploded.

The woman is in the hospital, but she is expected to make a full recovery. The local police department is also praising Carson for his courage and initiative.

“I would describe his actions as heroic,” South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond J. Hayducka Jr. told the news outlet. “Obviously, someone is alive today because of it.”

15-Year-old Creates Simple, Revolutionary Device That Can Generate Electricity From Rainwater

A 15-year-old girl’s ingenious source of renewable energy could bring light and electricity to the poorest, rainiest parts of the world.

Reyhan Jamalova is the founder of Rainergy, a contraption which can generate electricity from rainwater.

According to the ninth grader from Baku, Azerbaijan, rainwater is one of the few renewable energy sources that has not yet been exploited to its full potential. While solar and wind energy is currently dominating the market, both of the industries require extensive manufacturing, investment, upkeep, and maintenance. Rainergy, on the other hand, is a simple design made up of four key parts.

At the top of the instrument is a bucket that collects the rainwater and funnels it into a reservoir. The reservoir is connected to a generator through which the water flows and creates energy. The electricity is then stored in a battery that can be accessed even when it isn’t raining.

The Rainergy website says that the inexpensive device can generate roughly 3626kWH amount of electricity in a year, which is enough to light up one family-sized home. For the families who are cut off from the main electrical grid in rainier countries like Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines, Rainergy could be an invaluable source of light and energy.

Reyhan and her friend spent four months calculating the logistics of the device before building it with the help of their physics tutor. The youngster has already been recognized at the 2017 Model UN Conference in Azerbaijan, as well as the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in India. She also made it to the final stages of the ClimateLaunchpad competition in Europe, and she became the first person from Azerbaijan who made it onto Forbes’s 30 Under 30 Asia List.

Reyhan is currently look for investors so she can turn Rainergy into a business that can bring light into the lives of thousands of people around the world.

Teacher Carries 60-Pound Student on Her Back, Not Wanting Anyone to Be Left Out of Camping Trip

This teacher is setting a new bar for what it means to go above and beyond for your students.

Helma Wardenaar was heartbroken to hear that her 10-year-old student, Maggie Vasquez, was unable to go on the class’s 3-day camping trip to Camp Sullivan in Oak Forest.

Since Maggie has cerebral palsy, her walker would be unable to maneuver the rough terrain of the wilderness.

Instead of allowing her student to miss out, however, Wardenaar simply offered to carry the 60-pound student on her back.

The educator from The Academy for Global Citizenship in Chicago, Illinois had debated the merits of simply renting a pony for Maggie, but since Wardenaar exercises regularly, she decided to buy a special $300 harness that would allow her to shoulder the youngster for the trip.

Wardenaar told PEOPLE: “When I showed it to Maggie her eyes became really big! She was like, ‘Ms. Helma! You found something?’ I showed it to her in the classroom so everybody saw and they were like, ‘Yay! Maggie can do this!’”

In addition to carrying Maggie for the 45-minute hike to the campsite, Wardenaar carried her student for 2 hours every day so they could explore the forest and do nature activities with the class.

“It was kind of heavy, but I’m strong and didn’t want to give up,” Wardenaar added. “Whenever I had moments when I was tired or huffing and puffing, she would sing songs or say positive words to me.”

While this may be an extraordinary act of kindness for some, Wardenaar says that it is simply part of her dedication to her students.

“We didn’t think twice about doing this for Maggie. It’s ingrained in the culture of our school to help each other and to help make the world a better place.”

If you’re feeling inspired by the teacher’s gesture, her school – which is specifically for special needs children – started a GoFundMe campaign to reimburse her for the harness and to raise money for classroom expenses.

Study to Test Cannabis in Head-to-Head Trial with Fentanyl to Find Alternative for Severe Pain

In a world first, cannabis-based drugs are being compared to fentanyl as an alternative to breakthrough pain.

The clinical trial is being facilitated by Santé Cannabis, an independently credentialed research organization based out of Montreal. The study will compare the effects of cannabinoids produced by Tetra Bio-Pharma, a biopharmaceutical leader in cannabinoid-based drug discovery and development, in comparison to fentanyl, an opioid that is linked to hundreds of accidental overdoses in Canada.

According to a statement from Tetra, there were at least 2,923 apparent opioid-related deaths between January and September 2017. Of these overdoses, 92% were accidental and 72% of them involved fentanyl or fentanyl analogues.

Fentanyl is used as a treatment for “breakthrough pain”: a specific kind of “severe pain that erupts while a patient is already medicated with a long-acting painkiller.” This usually occurs in connection with cancer.

The National Institute of Drug Abuse have called the opioid’s misuse a “crisis” that needs to be addressed.

“Patients suffering from breakthrough pain require fast relief. Overdosing from fentanyl may occur in patients who exceed the recommended dosage in the hope of obtaining a more rapid relief. The development of a THC-based alternative would help provide a safer option to these patients and help prevent overdosing on fentanyl,” said Dr. Antonio Vigano, an attending physician and professor at McGill University and the Research Director of Santé Cannabis where he is a Principal Investigator in a Phase 3 clinical trial for pain associated with advanced cancer, in addition to a phase 2 trial for chronic pain.

“[The PPP001 drug] has the potential to become the long-awaited alternative to opioids for the management of breakthrough pain in cancer patients. Through this trial, we are going to gather more evidence-based data on the safety, efficacy, and ease of administration of inhaled cannabinoids as the complementary therapy of choice for cancer-related pain.” said Dr. Vigano.

City is Converting Highway Pillars into Vertical Gardens to Clean the Air

One organization in Mexico City is making their city into a better place one concrete pillar at a time.

Via Verde is a project that is working to convert at least 1,000 grey highway pillars into vertical gardens that can soak up pollution and smog.

The gardens are an innovative way of beautifying urban spaces, and absorbing CO2, heat, and city noise. The greenery has been shown to relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety in city residents, and the structural material used to make the gardens are constructed entirely out of recycled plastic.

The project is also sustainable in more ways than one. The self-sufficient irrigation system of the gardens ensures that the plants are efficiently maintained by collecting rainwater, instead of clean drinking water. The plant species are also specially chosen for their urban benefits, such as having low water consumption and high resistance.

Once the project is completed, the gardens will contain roughly 2.2 million plants for Mexico City’s growth.

Additionally, the gardens are being utilized as a source of social rehabilitation and job experience for local inmates. Men and women from The Santa Marta Acatitla Women’s Social Reintegration Center and the Oriente Men’s Preventive Detention Center are responsible for weaving the hydroponic textile substrate, which provides them with valuable training and employment opportunities.

Girl Finds Way to Honor Civil Rights Activist After Randomly Stumbling Upon Small Memorial

When Sarah Haycox found a small commemorative plaque dedicated to Edwin T. Pratt, she was curious as to why he lived such a short life. Now upon learning about his life and achievements, there is not a single person in her city who will be ignorant to his identity.

In 2016, 10-year-old Sarah, who lives in Shoreline, Washington, had just finished up a soccer game at a local park when she noticed a small memorial dedicated to Pratt. Even though she had never heard of him, she was particularly struck by how the marker indicated that he had died at the age of 39.

The youngster did some researching and found that Pratt had been a civil rights activist and the executive director of the Seattle Urban League. During his life, he advocated for desegregation and fair job and housing opportunities. He was even the first black person to move into Shoreline.

Until he was assassinated on the front porch of his house in 1969.

Inspired by his career, Sarah wondered how she could properly honor Pratt beyond a little plaque. She then noticed that an early learning center was being built across the street from her school. More importantly, it did not yet have a name.

Sarah launched a 15-month campaign to have the facility named after Pratt. She gave presentations in classrooms and churches; she served on committees; she spoke with school board members and officials; and she even went door-to-door so she could collect over 2,000 online and in-person signatures for a petition.

Finally, the school board unanimously voted last month to name the new school The Edwin T. Pratt Early Learning Center.

Though the accomplishment was a dream come true for Sarah, she is still working tirelessly in Pratt’s honor. She has started a GoFundMe campaign to pay for the Pratt family’s travel expenses so they can attend the center’s opening ceremony, and so that she can finance a mural on the building’s exterior.
