iPhone Produces Mysterious Mother’s Day Miracle for Grieving Son

Throughout history, people have debated over whether it’s possible to receive signs from the afterlife — but after witnessing a mysterious glitch on his iPhone three days after his mom died, even an investigative reporter has become a believer.

Brad Brown is a retired journalist who used to work with The Washington Post and WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio. He also happens to be the son of Janet Brown, who was reportedly one of the most highly-ranked women working at the Pentagon before she passed away in February 2017.

As Brad grieved the death of his mother and started making funeral arrangements, he was surprised to receive a strange sign through his iPhone mail app.

WATCHMom Brought To Tears When Wild Bird Comforts Her at Son’s Grave

When he tried to check his email, Brad’s screen only showed a cloudy image of a photo that was stored somewhere on his phone – a photo of his mother Janet.

Janet was buried earlier this week in a military ceremony at Arlington Cemetery, but three months later her fuzzy photo still lingers in the background of Brad’s mail app.

Apple experts were apparently stumped by how the image appeared in such a weird way, but they all agreed on one thing: they wouldn’t want to fix such a special glitch, even if they could.

Canada Bans Removal of Passengers on Overbooked Planes Unless Diplomacy is Used

Canada has just released a new airline passenger bill of rights that makes it illegal for passengers to be forcibly removed from overbooked domestic or international flights.

The legislation, passed by the transportation minister Marc Garneau, will require airlines to offer compensation for the passenger’s ticket – if a passenger does not accept the compensation, the airline will simply be forced to raise their offering price.

The bill, which is set to pass at the start of 2018, will also require financial compensation for damaged luggage.

CHECK OUTAmerican Airlines Worker Hailed for Saving 2 Lives in 1 Day

“When Canadians buy an airline ticket they expect the airline to keep its part of the deal,” said Garneau.

Airline overbooking has become a hot topic in recent months since a United Airlines passenger released cell phone footage of a man being violently dragged from a flight after he refused to give up his seat for a crew member.

United has since issued new guidelines stating that crew members must arrive 60 minutes prior to the departing flight, which will hopefully help to avoid any incidents in the future.

22-Year-old Who Stopped Global Cyberattack Donates His Reward to Charity

A British youth who was awarded $10,000 for accidentally stopping an international cyberattack has just announced that he will be donating the cash to charity and education.

The 22-year-old, who goes by the pseudonym MalwareTech, shut down the spread of the malicious online program by activating the “kill-switch” last week after the cyberattack was reported in over 100 countries.

Organizations worldwide were infected by the malicious ransomware known as “WannaCry” – a program that encrypts the users files and holds them for ransom. If the user does not pay the several hundred dollar ransom in bitcoin on time, then all of the data and files stored on the computer are deleted. The National Health Organization, FedEx, Telefonica, and Nissan are all examples of corporate giants who were affected by the malware in addition to hospitals and businesses worldwide.

CHECK OUTMan Saves 70 People From ISIS Sniper Fire Using His Bulletproof BMW

When MalwareTech and his friends heard of the epidemic, they started investigating the malware’s code. The 22-year-old Brit then found an unregistered domain name in the source of the code that acted as an “abort” button for the malware. When he registered the domain name, the attack ceased.

Though he has preferred to keep his identity anonymous, MalwareTech has been flooded with praise since reports of his deed spread online. HackerOne, an organization that rewards online security techs for detecting and defecting bugs and malware, offered the hero a $10,000 reward.

“So @Hacker0x01 have awarded me a $10,000 bounty for the ‘kill-switch’. I plan on splitting it between to-be-decided charities and education,” says MalwareTech. “By education I mean I plan to purchase [information security] based books to give to students who cannot afford them themselves.”

RELATED12-Year-old Girl Outsmarts Carjacker and Saves Little Sister

However, since sources have leaked that MalwareTech is a surfer who adores pizza, UK-based food delivery service Just Eat offered the youth free pizza for a year – which he says he is more prone towards accepting.

Though it sounds like the plot of a James Bond movie, the virus was a ransomware program that was being held by the U.S. government before it was leaked this weekend by an organization of hackers known as Shadow Brokers. The program was being stockpiled by the National Security Agency as a means of weaponizing it, should the need arise.

Microsoft, who discovered the malware one month prior, released a security patch immediately afterwards to protect their clients’ computers from the virus. However, since many organizations had not yet updated their systems, their computers were left vulnerable to the ransomware. Though Microsoft later berated the US government for harboring such dangerous programs, the company said that they have since been working to ensure that customers are properly able to recover from the incident.

“We take every single cyberattack on a Windows system seriously, and we’ve been working around the clock since Friday to help all our customers who have been affected by this incident,” Microsoft President Brad Smith announced on Friday. “This included a decision to take additional steps to assist users with older systems that are no longer supported. Clearly, responding to this attack and helping those affected needs to be our most immediate priority.”

Mother Who Refused to Give Up Disabled Son Nurtures Him All the Way to Harvard

Despite being told he would never succeed because of his disabilities, this 29-year-old Chinese man defied all of the odds thanks to his devoted mother.

Because of complications at birth, Ding Ding was born with cerebral palsy. Doctors advised his mother, Zou Hongyan, to give up the infant because he would never be as smart or capable as other children. Even her husband agreed with the doctors, saying that it wasn’t worth keeping a disabled son.

Zou remained defiant. She insisted on keeping Ding and divorced her husband soon after the birth, taking on several jobs in order to provide for her and her son.

LOOKDad Has the Perfect Plan to Cheer 6-Year-old Who Wet Her Pants

Whenever Zou was not working in the Hubei province as a protocol trainer or insurance representative, she would persistently take her son to rehabilitation sessions. She played educational games and puzzles with Ding in hopes of helping to stimulate his intelligence. She taught him how to overcome physical challenges, like properly using chopsticks.

Then finally after years of nurturing, Zou’s stellar parenting paid off: Ding graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Peking University’s Environmental Science and Engineering School in 2011 before being accepted into Harvard Business School for a master’s program.

Though his mother is still across the ocean working in China as he continues to study in America, Ding says that she is still his “spiritual mentor”, according to the South China Morning Post.

LEGO Reaches 100% Renewable Energy Goal 3 Years Early

After expending almost $1 billion in investments, LEGO has finally achieved its target of balancing 100% of the energy used by all of its factories, offices, and stores worldwide, with clean renewable energy three years earlier than anticipated.

Their most recent investment was buying a 25% stage in the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm, which helped them reach the goal that they set in 2012: funding over 160 megawatts of sustainable energy development worldwide.

RELATEDColombians Are Building Houses Made of Wasted Plastic—Shaped Into Huge Lego Bricks

The Liverpool, UK-based wind farm, which only just opened today, can reportedly power over 230,000 British homes.

“We work to leave a positive impact on the planet and I am truly excited about the inauguration of the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm. This development means we have now reached the 100% renewable energy milestone three years ahead of target. Together with our partners, we intend to continue investing in renewable energy to help create a better future for the builders of tomorrow,” said Bali Padda, CEO of the LEGO Group.

First Amputee to Cycle With His Hands in the Race Across America

This cyclist doesn’t need his legs to travel across America – he only needs his hands.

Andre Kajlich lost both of his legs from a subway accident in Prague 14 years ago. Doctors did not believe he would be able to properly sit down – let alone cycle – ever again.

But then after he lost his father in 2011, Kajlich challenged himself to start participating in marathons using a wheelchair bicycle that he bought off of Craigslist.

Now, the 37-year-old athlete has become the first cyclist to participate in the Race Across America using only his hands.

The cyclist has reportedly been training for the event by racing 500 miles every weekend.

Whether he can or cannot succeed is irrelevant for Kajlich – he simply wants to push himself to try.

Parisian Padlocks of Love Sold to Raise Thousands for Refugees

The padlocks that were once fastened onto the famous Pont Des Arts in Paris are now being sold to new homes as an effort to raise money for refugees in France.

The “love locks” raised over $273,000 during a charity auction on Saturday night, all of which will be donated to refugee organizations such as Solipam, the Salvation Army, and Emmaus Solidarite.

Some old segments of the bridge sold at the auction for as much as $18,800, according to AFP.

Lovers from around the world have traditionally fastened the locks onto the Pont Des Arts railing near the Louvre and thrown the keys into the Seine river. As the bridge accumulated more and more locks, however, part of the railing collapsed from the weight in 2014.

Parisian officials then began removing the locks in order to maintain the bridge’s structure in 2015. Acrylic glass panels were installed in front of the railing to prevent any more padlocks being attached.

Though the historic mounds of locks will no longer reside on the river, bidders were delighted to contribute to a good cause while also taking home “a piece of Paris”.

Husband Wins Mother’s Day With Incredibly Thoughtful Virtual Gift

Most Mother’s Day gifts usually stay somewhere in the realm of flowers or breakfast in bed – but this husband really went beyond the call of duty for his beloved wife.

This month, Danielle Digby and her family will be moving away from Port Moody, British Colombia to greener pastures. The mother of two was sad, however, to be leaving behind their hand-painted nursery room in the process.

“As some of you know, we’re moving this month and I’ve been pretty sad about leaving the nursery in particular because my dad helped me paint it just before he passed away,” wrote Danielle. “Not to mention the peaceful hours I spent painting the tree on the wall while waiting for the babies to arrive and the countless hours since with them in there.”

So when Mother’s Day rolled around this weekend, Danielle was surprised to open a gift from her husband Evan and see a pair of virtual reality glasses inside.

She was even more surprised to put on the goggles and see a 360º video of the nursery playing inside.

“He had rented a special camera and took the video so I could visit the room anytime I wanted to in the future. Probably the most thoughtful gift I’ve ever gotten.”

Well played, hubby… well played.

Imagine Receiving a Love Letter That Was Written to You 72 Years Ago–This Man Did

It has been six years since Virginia passed away – but after a mysterious discovery in a New Jersey home, her words have come alive to touch the heart of her husband once more.

Melissa Fahy and her father Alan Cook were doing some construction on their Westfield, New Jersey home earlier this week. As they were renovating, however, an old typed letter fell out of a crack in the ceiling.

The letter was a love note addressed to a man named Rolf Christoffersen from May 4th, 1945.

The letter’s author was Rolf’s wife Virginia. During the time that the letter was sent, Rolf was deployed in the Norwegian Navy, leading Virginia to write the heart wrenching love note, pining for her husband.

“I love you Rolf, as I love the warm sun, and that is what you are for my life, the sun about which everything else revolves for me,” reads the letter.

Melissa was so touched by the letter’s words, she knew she had to give it to the proper recipient. After doing a quick internet search, she found Rolf’s son living in Santa Barbara, California with his 96-year-old father.

The Christoffersen family was so overjoyed to receive such a treasure from their mother’s past, that they connected with Melissa in a video call and thanked her for the compassionate gesture.

“I was so surprised after all these years. I was very happy to find out that a letter like that existed. I am still very emotional,” Christoffersen told CNN.

When Senior Loses Memory at Dinner, Cops Sit Down to be Her Dates

This sweet old senior was eating dinner when she suddenly forgot how she could get home – luckily, these boys in blue were there to accompany her.

Alison Zimmer snapped a photo of the exchange as she entered the Boudins restaurant in Huntington Beach, California on Saturday night.

The woman reportedly told the restaurant staff that she was lost – so they called the police to help her get home.

Though they were only dispatched for a simple escort mission, the cops went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that the senior had a pleasant experience.

“These men sat with her while she finished her sandwich, got her a to-go container and boxed her leftovers, then drove her home,” wrote officials from the Huntington Beach Police Department page. “They were so kind, patient, and professional with this woman. They even let her finish her glass of wine!”

“She was definitely flirting and probably loved riding in the front seat of the cop car… that’s right, one of the officers sat in the back so she could have the front seat. She’s going to have a great story to share with her girlfriends!”

Since Alison’s photo of the event has become widely-shared on Facebook, praise has poured in for the officer’s kindness and patience.

Women Recovering From Eating Disorders Can Receive Free Fitted Clothes, Thanks to Former Patient

Recovering from an eating disorder is no easy journey – that’s why this nonprofit wants to take some of the burden off of women’s shoulders.

The Garment Project is the only organization that helps empower women healing from eating disorders by rebuilding their wardrobe for free.

Many people who suffer from eating disorders have fluctuating weight and body measurements, making it frustrating for them to keep a consistent wardrobe without spending a lot of money on clothes that fit. Plus, seeing the inconsistent clothing sizes can be triggering for people who are still sensitive about their body image.

RELATEDWhen Teen Lost Her Hair To Chemo She Started Modeling Instead of Being Sad

The Garment Project collaborates with health clinics across the country to connect with patients who are about to be released from treatment. The patients can then select new, name brand clothing that they like from the organization’s website. The Pittsburgh-based project then removes all tags, sizes, and measurements to remove possible stress before shipping them to the patient’s house. Anything they don’t like, they are free to send back.

The Garment Project’s co-founder Erin Drischler is already familiar with the struggles of eating disorders: she spent 14 years living with the illness until she finally started to heal.

“Every time I would go through treatment, I would lose all sense of self since my core beliefs about food and life were being stripped from me,” says Erin. “After months of hard work, I would return home to a closet full of clothes that at one point filled me with such (false) confidence, and I would find myself unconsciously striving to fit back into them.”

CHECK OUTAustralian Tattoo Artist Offers to Cover Up Self-Harm Scars For Free

“My closet ranged in sizes, but a lot of them brought up negative memories. I could not afford to buy myself a brand new wardrobe [since] treatment is expensive. Trying on clothes was overwhelming and quickly revealed my new size. In addition to all the other pressures I faced upon arriving home, I didn’t have a chance. I knew I could not be alone in this aspect of my struggle, so I decided to launch Garment.”

Garment has started working with six different treatment facilities across the country since their debut in February, but they hope to expand as the project gains traction.

“We are not just giving clothing that fits, we are allowing our clients to build confidence in other aspects of their lives while tackling the worst part—body image.”

Teacher Provides 650 Bikes, One to Every Student at Her School

Over 650 low-income students now have their very own bicycle – and it’s all thanks to one passionate teacher who believes that every child deserves to play.

Katie Blomquist received national attention after she started a GoFundMe campaign several months ago to raise money for bikes – or more accurately, a bicycle, a helmet, and a lock for every single one of the students at her school.

Katie is a first grade teacher at Pepperidge Elementary in North Charleston, South Carolina. Since the area has very high rates of poverty, many of the kids have never had the chance to experience owning a bike.

RELATEDPublic Raises $100K For Widower Selling Kindling to Pay Wife’s Medical Bills

“Over the years, after talking with students, I have come to the realization many have never ridden a bike nor do they have the means to own a bike, especially one that is new,” says Katie. “I soon began to envision how each student’s quality of life could improve if they had more freedom to ride around their neighborhoods.”

The campaign, which had a goal of $65,000, became so widely shared on social media, that after several months of effort, it managed to raise $80,000.

The bikes are all custom-made beauties from Radio Flyer, featuring “Let’s Go Places!” emblazoned on the frame.

MOREWoman Donates Entire Toy Store to Kids in Homeless Shelters

“This isn’t a gift from me. This is a gift not only from your local community, but our whole country,” said Blomquist before she revealed the bikes, according to Post and Courier. “One day when you’re a grown-up and you’re looking back on this day, I want you to really think about that and think about the joy and happiness that these strangers gave to you, and I hope that you in turn one day find a way to give back some sort of happiness and joy to other people because of this day.”

Their reaction to the surprise in the video below is magical.

Katie has since begun creating a nonprofit called Going Places – an organization dedicated to the noble cause of providing low income kids with bicycles, swimming lessons, and summer camp opportunities.
