21 community gardens are part of the mayor's bid to improve Mexico City's quality of life.
Since Mexicans took to the streets last January after the price of tortillas doubled, money and materials for gardens have been donated to transform what used to be a garbage dump. Now the smell of old milk cartons and
beer cans has been replaced with the fresh scent of cilantro. (The Christian Science Monitor)

A valley in Bulgaria's mountains, for decades known for making AK-47 rifles, now has blossomed into a supplier of organic rose oil for beauty products, reviving a centuries' old industry. Every morning at dawn hundreds of villagers hustle through fields of rose bushes to pick fresh blooms still damp with morning dew. (Reuters News has the story)
