"Protecting marine areas for even relatively brief periods can significantly restore depleted fish stocks, scientists said on Monday. Researchers found that after an area off the coast was closed to fishermen for seven months, the number of octopus caught later rose 13 times. This study shows marine protected areas not only serve as a powerful conservation tool helping species thrive, but can also be a powerful economic tool helping fisheries remain productive and profitable." Roger Kornberg, a biochemist at Stanford University, won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for work with DNA and genes... just like his father before him, Arthur Kornberg, who shared the 1959 Nobel medicine prize for studies involving genetic information... The discovery of this year's chemisty laureate is
crucial to unlocking the medical promise of stem cells, and of
understanding diseases, such as cancer. The win completes an American sweep of the science prizes, a feat that occurred

Sean McCarthy says that
his small hi-tech firm in Dublin has hit upon a way of generating
clean,
free and constant energy from the interaction of magnetic fields.
McCarthy bought a newspaper advertisement to challenge the global
scientific community to test his ideas. Within 36 hours, more than 400
applications from scientists had arrived eager to perform experiments
