When Tribe Objects to Auction of Sacred Pipe, Anonymous Buyer Pays Double So it Can Be Returned

When a sacred peace pipe went up for auction last weekend, a Native American community objected to its sale and asked for it to be returned.

The artifact ended up on the buyer’s block anyway, but instead of being sold for profit, an anonymous buyer paid double the original asking price solely so they could return it to its rightful Native owners.

The catlinite pipe had been given to an American soldier as a peace offering from Dakota Chief White Dog during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. If you haven’t read the history books, then suffice it to say that the conflict ended in tragedy.

The pipe had been in possession of a Boston family until it was put up for sale by auction company Skinner, Inc. on Saturday. The artifact was expected to sell for about $20,000.

Upon hearing about the pipe’s auction, the Lower Sioux Indian Community near Redwood Falls, Minnesota voiced dissent and started working in opposition to the sale.

During the auction, however, the pipe was sold to an unidentified buyer who paid roughly $40,000 – which was double the estimated fetching price.

Prairie Island Tribal Council President Shelley Buck released a statement saying that the buyer had bought the pipe “for the sole purpose of returning it to the Dakota Oyate (people).” Not only that, but they wished to remain anonymous.

“We are humbled by and grateful for this honorable act,” says Buck. “Pidamayaye to the donor for your respect and generosity.”

According to Jill Doerfler, head of the American Indian Studies Department at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Native communities have been asking museums and collectors to return sacred artifacts that were historically seized or stolen without permission – and while some institutions have complied, this was a very unusual gesture of cultural respect.

“In English, objects are generally inanimate,” she said. “But in a lot of native cultures, that pipe has its own being, its own entity, and it has to be cared for.”

“Museums have for the last several decades been returning items slowly,” she added. “This is a very interesting case where somebody obviously saw this coming up for auction. I can’t imagine this happens very often at all.”

This Portable 3D Printer Could Print Skin Over Wounds in Under 2 Minutes

Thanks to this latest breakthrough in 3D-printing technology, skin grafts may soon be a thing of the past. Instead, physicians could just heal those injuries by simply printing out a new sheet of skin on the spot.

Researchers at the University of Toronto have developed a handheld 3D skin printer that can quickly manufacture fresh skin tissue that can cover and fill a wound in less than two minutes – and the team believes it to be the first contraption of its kind.

The device is shaped similarly to a packing tape dispenser, except instead of tape, it distributes tissue sheets made out of “protein-based biomaterials including collagen, the most abundant protein in the dermis, and fibrin, a protein involved in wound healing.” The printed material can then penetrate all three layers of skin to properly heal the wound.

RELATEDMagnetic Brain Treatment Erases Suicidal Thoughts in Dramatic Portion of Depressed Patients, Study

Currently, the preferred method of treating these kinds of injuries is with skin grafts that require large portions of donor skin. Because there is rarely enough donor skin to cover an injured area, however, this usually leads to a poor recovery and healing process.

Although other bioengineered skin tissues have already been developed, none of them have been used very widely.

“Most current 3D bioprinters are bulky, work at low speeds, are expensive and are incompatible with clinical application,” explains Professor Axel Guenther.

MOREAlzheimer’s Gene is Neutralized in Human Brain Cells for the First Time

“Our skin printer promises to tailor tissues to specific patients and wound characteristics,” says PhD student Navid Hakimi who led the research. “And it’s very portable.”

According to the researchers, they must complete further tests before starting human trials, but they hope that their contraption will one day revolutionize the way that physicians treat burn victims.

Their findings are currently published in the scientific journal Lab on a Chip.

America’s Incarceration Rate is at a Two-Decade Low

After years of steady increase, this exciting new data says that America’s incarceration rate has fallen to a 20-year low. Not only that, but the number of incarcerated people in prison has declined as well.

According to a report that was published by the Pew Research Center, the US incarceration rate in 2016 dropped to approximately 860 prison or jail inmates for every 100,000 adults, which is the lowest it has been since 1996 when it was 830 inmates for every 100,000. Additionally, the prison population clocked in at 2,162,400, which is the lowest it has been since 2004.

The incarceration rate had peaked at 1,000 incarcerations per 100,000 during a three-year period in the mid-2000s.

RELATEDMore Dutch Prisons to Close Due to Staggeringly Low Crime Rates

The research center credits these positive trends to changing legislation related to drug charges. In January, California representatives allowed state residents charged with marijuana-related crimes to have their felonies reduced or expunged completely. Soon after the initiative was announced, Seattle followed suit.

Other causes for the decline in incarceration include falling crime rates.

The research center says that violent crime rates have declined from their peak in the 90s by anywhere from 47% to 78%, depending on the data. Property crime also declined significantly by as much as 66%.

Student Proves We Can Grow Millions of Pounds of Food By Planting it on Top of Trash

This student’s plan to tackle food insecurity may sound unappetizing, but it’s actually pretty ingenious.

Joy Youwakim, an economics student at the University of Texas, has proven that we can safely grow produce on top of inactive landfills.

Using a 200-foot patch of land in a closed landfill southeast of Austin, Youwakim worked with her fellow students to grow 20 pounds of various crops, such as radishes, eggplant, bell peppers, cucumbers, and cantaloupe. All of the produce was then tested and declared safe by the Food Safety Net Services.

If Youwakim expanded her efforts to include all 390 acres of the landfill, she would be able to grow enough food for over 8,000 families. There were more than 6,000 inactive landfills in 2012, which roughly amounts to over 2 million acres of unused land. If implemented nationwide, Youwakim’s experiment could spell the end for food insecurity.

CHECK OUTInstead of Arguing Online, Political Foes Are Coming Together Over Food to ‘Make America Dinner Again’

The economics student says that she first got the idea for her initiative when she saw what an unused landfill actually looked like.

“I was working at the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality one summer and struck up a conversation with an employee working in the landfill division,” she told the Good News Network. “When he showed me a picture of a closed landfill, I was so surprised to find that it looked more like a closed golf course than a pile of trash.

“I’ve always been passionate about food access, so I immediately began thinking about the possibilities of growing food on this space. I learned that landfills are typically located in low income areas, so I saw this as an opportunity to bring fresh produce to individuals living in food deserts as well as a way to sustain farmable land as our population grows and we continue to urbanize.”

LOOKCheap ‘Plant Pods’ That Can Grow More Lettuce in a Room Than Half-Acre Plot May End Hunger

After that, Youwakim says it took about 13 months of phone calls, proposals, and cutting through red tape to get the necessary food permits to conduct her experiment.

Now, she has been nominated as one of four finalists for the General Mills Feeding Better Futures Scholars Program for a chance to win $50,000 to develop their food relief initiatives.

Kate Stagliano, who is one of the other competition finalists, has been featured on Good News Network in the past for her incredible story about how a massive cabbage inspired her to start an organization that encourages youngsters to grow their own food for the needy.

RELATEDHow One Girl Fed Thousands Thanks to an Unusually Large Cabbage

Whether Youwakim wins or not, she says that she is excited to expand her initiative to other communities, one trash patch at a time.

“Landfills are not an endangered resource they’re going to keep being around,” she told GNN. “When these landfills close, I want to use this space and grow food on top of them instead of abandoning them.”

These Quadruplets Have the Most Infectious Baby Laughter #TBT

There are not many things that are more endearing than the sound of a baby’s laugh – except for maybe four babies laughing.

Back in the early 2000s, a video of a happy mother cuddling with her quadruplet children became a $250,000 prize-winning clip on the “America’s Funniest Home Videos” television show.

Why did it win? Because as the father is filming is family, he occasionally makes a silly noise to make his kids laugh – and they have the most infectiously delightful giggles.

For a solid minute and a half, these infants can’t stop grinning, chuckling, and laughing in total syncopation.

“People are still delighted with that video,” the mother, Allison Mathias, told Huff Post.

“I think it’s just one of those videos you can’t not laugh at,” adds dad Steve. “There’s something about the syncopation of them stopping and starting laughing. It’s just the contagious type laugh.”

The infants in the video, Grace, Emily, Mary Claire, and Anna, are now all grown up as 17-year-old high schoolers. Though their faces are still identical, they reportedly all have their own unique interests and personalities.

“My hopes for the girls in the future are that they become the young ladies that God wants them to be, that they follow His plans for their future,” says their mom. “There are big things out there for them. I’m just excited to see what it is.”

In World First, Norway Will Only Be Allowing Electric Ships to Enter Their Pristine Fjords

Norway has long been a leader of green energy and sustainability – and their latest initiative in the fight against climate change is establishing the world’s first emission-free zone at sea.

The nation’s parliament recently adopted new legislation that will require all vessels, ships, and liners entering their iconic fjords to produce zero carbon emissions. Though the resolution is set to be enforced “as soon as technically possible”, the ban will go into full effect in 2026.

With hundreds of thousands of tourists visiting the country’s 1,160 fjords every year, the ban is not only expected to benefit the environment, but also the health of the tourists and local communities.

“For the first time in the world there is a requirement for emission-free sailing in the fjords and their harbors,” says Marius Holm, head of the environmental foundation ZERO. “Norway has long been a world leader in emission-free ferries based on sound political decisions on zero-emission requirements. Now the country is taking a step further in the maritime green shift that has global repercussions.

RELATED10-Year-old is Traveling 620 Miles to Clean-up Coastlines, After Whale Dies With 30 Plastic Bags Ingested

“At the national level, this will mean a welcome development towards emission-free solutions on many tourist ships, a significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions and a halt to harmful local air pollution,” adds Holm.

The initiative is a welcomed follow-up to Norway’s legislation from 2015 that required all ferries in new tenders to be equipped with zero or low-emission technology. As tourist companies prepare for the 2026 deadline, currently existing ships are expected to be supplied with battery-powered electric propulsion or (in the future) hydrogen, says Marine Log.

MOREAll Cars Sold in Norway to be Electric by 2025

And with how quickly Norway has been transitioning to a clean energy economy, experts say that the switch to zero-emission sailing technology could come about much sooner than 2026.

“Tourists come to see pure nature, not fjords full of exhaust. Norway also has an international responsibility to manage its world heritage sites. We have long been seeking concrete action, and are therefore very pleased with this decision on emissions-free fjords,” says Katrin Blomvik, director of the Geiranger Fjord World Heritage Foundation.

Sudden Urge for a Slurpee Puts Woman in Place to Save Man’s Life

When a New York driver suffered a sudden heart attack, Christiana Corrado was there to save him – and she says that she was in the right place at the right time because of a sudden craving for a sweet treat.

Corrado had not enjoyed a cherry slurpee from 7-Eleven since she was pregnant three years ago, but for one reason or another, she was hit with a sudden urge for the icy snack on Thursday.

The Westchester, New York woman was on her way to the convenience store to pick up a slurpee when she saw an SUV careen off the road and roll into the brick wall of a CVS.

Corrado, who is an EMS instructor and paramedic, immediately made a U-turn so she could check on the injured driver. By the time she arrived at his side, the prognosis was not good.

“When I checked for a pulse, I couldn’t feel any. And he was cyanotic — really, really blue,” Corrado told WLNY.

She gave the man chest compressions until he eventually regained consciousness.

If she had not been driving past the man when he had the heart attack, there may not have been anyone to save him during his time of need – which is why Corrado credits the fateful rescue to her sudden and unexplained craving for a slurpee.

“It’s pretty strange to me that all of a sudden on this day at that moment I would decide to go to that particular 7-Eleven to obtain one,” said Corrado. “Look at that. Never know what God has in plan for you.”

Aging Chefs Find a Way to Serve, Instead of Slaving on Their Feet for Long Hours

If you’ve ever worked in the restaurant industry, you know how exhausting it can be to stand on your feet all day – especially for chefs over 50 years old. The meager salaries often aren’t worth the back pain and long hours.

Thanks to one ingenious service, however, experienced chefs no longer have to suffer the physical and financial demands of working at a restaurant because they are now being hired to cook for you instead.

CozyMeal is an organization that pairs professional chefs with individuals who want quality culinary service without the fuss of restaurants. Not only does this provide a relaxed face-to-face experience for everyone involved, but it also means that chefs don’t have to suffer through a strenuous workweek for a modest income.

Currently, the website allows customers to book chefs from all culinary backgrounds to host fun food-related events, from catering dinner parties to teaching cooking classes. The flexible hourly payoff means that chefs will collectively walk away with 2 to 3 times their original salary in a restaurant – and all in exchange for a much more pleasant experience.

CHECK OUTBecause His AirBnb Guest Had a Heart Attack, Man’s Ingenuity is Now Saving Thousands of Lives

Cozymeal founder Samad Nasserian says that he first got the idea for the platform after he heard about the stressful challenges of being a chef.

“I had several friends who were chefs, and I would often hear how difficult the chef lifestyle could be, and how low their incomes are in the restaurant industry,” Nasserian told Good News Network. “Chefs often graduate from culinary school with $40K-60K in debt and with their extremely low income, it’s very difficult to pay back the debt.”

Additionally, Nasserian considered the benefits of being able to have an expertly-prepared meal without the stresses of having to find a good restaurant.

MORETeen Prodigies Create App That Could End School Lunch Hunger

“On the other side of the culinary world, I enjoyed discovering new cultural experiences, but I was often frustrated by those restaurants where I found it was often loud; the quality of the food was mediocre; and there was never an opportunity to interact with the chef.”

“Therefore, I decided to create Cozymeal, an online marketplace that connects guests with some of the nation’s top chefs for intimate one-on-one culinary experiences.”

Almost half of the 250 chefs currently working for the platform are over 50 years old, the rest of which are mostly aged between 30 and 40. Though they all have reaped the rewards of Cozymeal, several of these success stories are particularly inspiring.

RELATEDDad Creates App to Help Daughter Communicate

“I receive regular thank you notes from our chefs,” Nasserian tells GNN. “Some of these notes and personal stories are especially heartening, like the story of one of our Los Angeles-based chefs who was struggling with cancer when she joined Cozymeal. We not only provided her with a good income and better lifestyle (something which was not available to her in the restaurant industry), but the joy of entertaining Cozymeal customers helped to improve her spirits, which then helped her with her recovery.

“Another one of our chefs (a former owner of two pastry shops and former chef of several French presidents) was my Uber driver until I asked him to join Cozymeal,” he added.

In the coming year, Nasserian says that the platform will be launching an app and expanding their services to more national and international cities. Not only that, but Cozymeal expects to double the amount of chefs on their freelance staff, as well as hire bar tenders and food guides.

Airport Erupts in Cheers When Lucky Flight Delay Leads to Soldier Getting to Watch Birth of His Baby

While some people might give smartphones a bad rap for their distracting nature, people are rejoicing over a photo of an anxious soldier who was transfixed by his cell phone at a Texas airport.

And it’s not because he was dawdling on social media – it’s because he was watching a live video stream of his daughter’s birth.

Specialist Brooks Lindsey had been training at the Fort Bliss military base in preparation for his deployment to Kuwait with the Army National Guard when he received noticed that his pregnant wife was having an emergency induction.

His wife Haley had been diagnosed with high blood pressure and preeclampsia, a potentially dangerous birth complication, during a routine doctor’s appointment the previous day. When she was on her way to the hospital the following day, doctors told her that they wanted to deliver the baby as soon as possible.

Haley, who lives in Mississippi, immediately took the necessary steps to tell her husband about the birth.

Brooks rushed to the airport only to find that his flight had been delayed. As he was waiting at the gate, his mother FaceTimed him so he could watch the birth of his daughter through video chat.

Other travelers who were waiting on the delayed flight heard about Brooks’s predicament so when they all finally heard the newborn baby cry out, the passengers cheered for the new dad.

Tracy Dover, who was one of the cheering bystanders, had snapped a photo of the emotional soldier and posted it to social media where it was shared thousands of times.

“When we heard the baby cry, we all rejoiced for him,” says Dover. “I wanted to share this because I never want us to forget about our soldiers who serve us every day and the sacrifices they make.”

The story has a silver lining, too – Brooks’s family agrees that if the flight had not been delayed, he would have been in the air during the birth, thus making the nerve-wracking incident a “blessing in disguise”.

10 Ways to Sleep Smarter and Why You Should Start Using Them Tonight

The Lesson: When people think about the most important contributors of a healthy lifestyle, they might just say diet and exercise – but not many people know how vital a good night’s sleep can be for your mental and physical wellness. That’s why Shawn Stevenson, a nutritionist and athlete, talks about the 10 simplest ways for people to get a better night’s sleep, and why it is essential for their health.

Notable Excerpt: “Sleep is so weird though – and this is part of the reason why it feels our culture looks down on it in a weird way. Like if you have 10 things to do, and sleep is one of them, you’re going to neglect sleep, saying things like ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’, [like it’s a badge of honor] … and the only thing that that is accelerating is the day when you ARE sleeping because you’re dead. Because your body really transforms itself while you sleep … and at no point in my book do I say that you have to get ‘blank’ hours of sleep, it’s more about the quality. You know, making sure that your body is going through the stages of REM and non-REM sleep. Because that’s really what is changing you.”

The Guest: When Shawn Stevenson was a youngster, he was diagnosed with a degenerative bone disease that crushed his dreams of becoming a professional athlete. Not only did he overcome the disease by adopting a healthier lifestyle, but he went on to become one of the most acclaimed nutritionists in the country. His podcast, “The Model Health Show”, is listed as the #1 Health podcast in America, and his book “Sleep Smarter” holds a wealth of information on the importance of sleep.

The Host: After spending years of his young life and athletic career struggling with his own emotional wellbeing, a crippling injury left Lewis Howes without an identity and without any work. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, however, Howes recreated himself as a multi-million dollar media producer, motivational speaker, bestselling author, and podcast host. The ex-football player now spends his days chatting with the most inspirational icons of this generation on his School of Greatness podcast.

Podcast: The School of Greatness podcast is available for download on Soundcloud and iTunes. You can also watch footage of the interviews on Howes’s YouTube channel.

Books: Howes is the author of the New York Times bestselling book “The School of Greatness”: an in-depth collection of lessons and wisdom that he has gathered from interviewing hundreds of the world’s greatest role models and thinkers. Howes’s latest book, “The Mask of Masculinity”, is based on his experience with the dangerous stereotypes and expectations that are placed on men in modern society.

8th Grader Creates Website That Pairs Shelter Dogs With Compatible Owners– and it’s Working

8th grader Aiden Horwitz is the perfect example of how you are never too young to make a difference.

The 13-year-old is currently making headlines for her innovative school project: a website that pairs human adopters with their ideal shelter companion.

The website was created for the Passion Project elective at Aiden’s school, the Austin Jewish Academy. Students who take the year-long class are asked to develop a project that addresses an issue near and dear to their heart.

Aiden’s website, Dog Do Or Dog Don’t, asks potential pet owners to fill out a 13-question survey that collects information on what kind of house they have, whether they have children, what kind of resources they can provide for the pup, as well as several other metrics. Once the survey is complete, it tallies up the scores and displays all of the compatible dogs that are listed on the Austin Pets Alive! website.

The Austin Pets Alive! is an animal rescue organization based out of Austin, Texas. Since there are hundreds of pets available for adoption on their website, Aiden’s service has been hailed as huge help for the organization. Not only that, but animal shelter intake has consistently been shown to increase during the warm season.

The 13-year-old says that her website has already garnered over 10,000 clicks on her website, which has resulted in 5 adoptions.

Despite the website only starting as a school project, Aiden plans on expanding the service to other shelters and states.

For the second year in a row, one of the world’s most famous magazines is searching for the Top 10 Nicest Places in America: a crowd-sourced effort to uncover places where people are kind and treat each other with respect in an era of cultural and political divides.

Nicest Places can range from small towns to big-city neighborhoods, businesses, community centers, military bases, places of worship and anywhere else where the spirit of “nice” prevails.

Launched in 2017, the first search for Nicest Places resulted in hundreds of nominations filled with stories of a kinder, more trusting America than you see on social media and on cable news. The heartwarming story of the winning place, Gallatin, Tennessee, told of a growing city struggling to heal historic racial divides when faced with tragedy.

The search will run in three phases: collection of nominations; announcement of finalists and public voting; and unveiling of the winning place on “Good Morning America” and in Reader’s Digest.

Nominations are currently being accepted on the magazine’s website until June 5th.

“While there is plenty of media shining a light on conflict and rancor in America, we’re providing a way for Americans to share the places where neighbors trust each other, strangers are welcomed, and civility and respect win out,” said Reader’s Digest editor-in-chief Bruce Kelley. “We know they’re all around us.”

“It can be easy to underestimate the power of kindness and respect,” says Roberts. “I’m honored to be part of an initiative that brings people together and celebrates those important values.”

Record-breaking Water Purifier Made of Paper Could Bring Clean Water to Desperate Areas

Paper and water may not seem like the most ideal combination for success, but these scientists have managed to make paper into an astonishingly effective water purifier.

The idea of using energy from the sun to evaporate and purify water is ancient. The Greek philosopher Aristotle reportedly described such a process more than 2,000 years ago. Now, researchers are bringing this technology into the modern age, using it to sanitize water at what they report to be record-breaking rates.

By draping black, carbon-dipped paper in a triangular shape and using it to both absorb and vaporize water, they have developed a method for using sunlight to generate clean water with near-perfect efficiency.

“Our technique is able to produce drinking water at a faster pace than is theoretically calculated under natural sunlight,” says lead researcher Qiaoqiang Gan, associate professor of electrical engineering in the University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

As Gan explains, “Usually, when solar energy is used to evaporate water, some of the energy is wasted as heat is lost to the surrounding environment. This makes the process less than 100% efficient. Our system has a way of drawing heat in from the surrounding environment, allowing us to achieve near-perfect efficiency.”

The low-cost technology could provide drinking water in regions where resources are scarce, or where natural disasters have struck.

Gan and other colleagues have launched a startup, Sunny Clean Water, to bring the invention to people who need it. With support from the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research program, the company is integrating the new evaporation system into a prototype of a solar still, a sun-powered water purifier.

“When you talk to government officials or nonprofits working in disaster zones, they want to know: ‘How much water can you generate every day?’ We have a strategy to boost daily performance,” Song says. “With a solar still the size of a mini fridge, we estimate that we can generate 10 to 20 liters of clean water every single day.”

The technique has many advantages. It’s simple, and the power source — the sun — is available just about everywhere. But unfortunately, even the latest solar still models are somewhat inefficient at vaporizing water.

Gan’s team addressed this challenge through a neat, counterintuitive trick: They increased the efficiency of their evaporation system by cooling it down.

A central component of their technology is a sheet of carbon-dipped paper that is folded into an upside-down “V” shape, like the roof of a birdhouse. The bottom edges of the paper hang in a pool of water, soaking up the fluid like a napkin. At the same time, the carbon coating absorbs solar energy and transforms it into heat for evaporation.

As Gan explains, the paper’s sloped geometry keeps it cool by weakening the intensity of the sunlight illuminating it. (A flat surface would be hit directly by the sun’s rays.) Because most of the carbon-coated paper stays under room temperature, it can draw in heat from the surrounding area, compensating for the regular loss of solar energy that occurs during the vaporization process.

Using this set-up, researchers evaporated the equivalent of 2.2 liters of water per hour for every square meter of area illuminated by the regular sun, higher than the theoretical upper limit of 1.68 liters, according to the new study. The team conducted its tests in the lab, using a solar simulator to generate light at the intensity of one regular sun.

“Most groups working on solar evaporation technologies are trying to develop advanced materials, such as metallic plasmonic and carbon-based nanomaterials,” Gan says. “We focused on using extremely low-cost materials and were still able to realize record-breaking performance.

“Importantly, this is the only example I know of where the thermal efficiency of the solar evaporation process is 100 percent when you consider solar energy input. By developing a technique where the vapor is below ambient temperature, we create new research possibilities for exploring alternatives to high-temperature steam generation.”

The advancements are described in a study published in the journal Advanced Science.

Dog Hiding in Stolen Car Turns Up 24 Hours Later

Chief the yellow lab has been there for Rose Nese through thick and thin – so when a carjacker took off with her vehicle while Chief was hiding in the back seat, Nese was “hysterical“.

The East Boston woman had left her SUV running for just five minutes on Sunday evening so she could run into a convenience store to buy a lottery ticket. When she came back outside, the car – with chief inside – was gone.

“I really don’t care about the car,” she told CBS News. “I just want Chief back.”

“He’s basically a lovable yellow lab. Friendly, he loves everybody and everything,” Nese said. “He rescued me, actually. A year ago, my mother passed away, and two days later, I had a fire and I lost my home.”

As the dognapping was reported by local news outlets, Nese’s friends and family set up “what amounted to a war room” in her apartment. The group tirelessly searched for the white SUV and did what they could to reunite the Boston woman with her dog.

Even the animal shelter who has cared for Chief in the past wrote about the carjacking on social media in hopes that someone would spot the friendly dog.

Finally, after a very long 24 hours of searching, Chief turned up totally unharmed in the back of the SUV at Everett cemetery just outside of Boston.

And the reunion was a happy one.
