When Murad Osman wanted to propose to his girlfriend Nataly in India, he couldn’t bring himself to spend money on the diamond industry that exploited child labor and the environment.

That’s why the couple started Follow Your Love: a conflict-free jewelry line that sells man made diamonds equal in brilliance to natural gems that took millions of years to develop in the ground– except it only takes a matter of weeks.

The process for manufacturing the man made diamonds dates back to the 1950s when the High Pressure, High Temperature technique was originally developed by General Electric.

“In this process, we melt graphite under tremendous pressure and temperature to mimic nature’s process,” Follow Your Love’s COO, Isaac Gottesman told the Good News Network.

A mother at the West Palm Beach, Florida show passed a sign to the pop star reading “My son was bullied from first to fifth grade. He would come home every day upset, but he’d go to his room, listen to your music, and smile.”

Without missing a beat, the singer demanded the little boy join her on stage.

‘Mood ATM’ Checks in on User’s Feelings Instead of Their Money

Now instead of checking up on the varying states of their bank accounts, New Zealand pedestrians can take a look at how the residents of their city are feeling.

The Moodbank is an ATM-like machine where users can select a combination of over 1,000 moods and emotions to explain how they’re feeling.

Engineered by Australian artist Vanessa Crowe as an experiment in human and technologic interaction, the installation has been making its way around New Zealand, creating a geographic mood map of the country.

The graphs show incredibly colorful and elaborate trends of people feeling moods such as ‘snappy’, ‘peachy’, ‘groggy’, ‘loved’, and ‘buzzing’.

“City spaces have often been thought about in terms of the functional flows of people and things: the money that is exchanged, the congestion of rush hour, the accumulation of rubbish and the cold face of professionalism,” reads the Moodbank Tumblr. “More recently businesses, governments, and social media have come to see the value in finding out how happy we are. But what about the more diverse and complex emotional life of the city?”

During her graduation party, Lauren surprised Joe Iosco – her mother’s boyfriend of 17 years – with a framed poem and adoption papers to make him her legal father.

Tesla Autopilot Feature Saves Sick Driver’s Life

Joshua Neally may not have made it to the hospital in time to save himself from the pulmonary embolism crippling his system if it hadn’t been for his week-old automobile.

Neally had only been driving a Tesla Model X for seven days when all of a sudden on his way home from work in Springfield, Missouri, an intense pain started to grow in his abdomen.

The driver switched on the autopilot feature and directed it towards the nearest hospital 20 miles away.

“It was kinda getting scary. I called my wife and just said ‘something’s wrong’ and I couldn’t breathe, I was gasping, kind of hyperventilating,” Neally told KYTV-TV. “I just knew I had to get there, to the ER.”

Pulmonary embolisms are blocked blood vessels in the lungs that can be fatal if not treated quickly. If Joshua wasn’t escorted to the hospital by the Model X, he would have had to pull over and wait for an ambulance – which may have spelt disaster for the Missouri lawyer.

Even though the autopilot feature has been controversially hailed, Neally has vouched for the technology ever since the life-saving incident in July.

Siberian percussion group Ethnobeat aren’t famous for waling on any ordinary drums – the foursome are renowned for beating out funky grooves using only a frozen lake as their instrument.

Lake Baikal is the deepest and largest freshwater lake in the world – it also becomes a fantastic set of bongos in cold weather. With temperatures averaging at -4º Farenheit (-20º Celsius), the ice freezes to roughly one meter thick.

After having their attention drawn to the creature’s plight by children on the shore, one of the sailors dived into the ocean to rescue the kitten and bring it aboard the boat.

Boy Has Spent Years Donating Thousands of Smoke Detectors to Families in Need

When Hector Montoya was only 9-years-old, he happened to see one of the many horror stories regularly broadcasted on the news: a little girl’s parents had perished in a house fire.

Since he was confused as to why the family didn’t have a smoke detector, his grandmother simply said that “some people do and some people don’t.”

That wasn’t a good enough reason for Hector – so instead of using the $300 stashed away in his savings account for a new Playstation 4, the boy spent the money on smoke detectors.

Now 11-years-old, Hector has donated 6,425 smoke detectors to families across Texas.

After his most recent contribution of 125 detectors to the Desoto Fire Department on Wednesday, the boy was honored for his generosity in a ceremony featuring local firefighters, his family, and the city mayor. The donations will be distributed throughout nearby senior homes in need.

Hector’s compassionate actions make sense considering he dreams of one day becoming a firefighter himself.

“We have a fire academy here. We’re giving him a scholarship for the academy. He’s given so much, and we’re going to give a little back to him,” DeSoto Fire Rescue Chief Jerry Duffield told Inside Edition. “A smoke detector wakes [up families], gets them outside, saves their lives. Not only is Hector saving the lives of these folks who wake up and hear the alarm, he’s also saving the lives of the firefighters who are first to respond to a scene, having to make a tough decision about sending people in. There’s a lot of layers of what he’s done.”

Veteran Homelessness Has Dropped 50% Since 2010

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) today announced the number of veterans experiencing homelessness in the United States has been cut nearly in half since 2010. The data revealed a 17 percent decrease in veteran homelessness between January 2015 and January 2016—quadruple the previous year’s annual decline—and a 47 percent decrease since 2010.

Through HUD’s annual Point-in-Time (PIT) estimate of America’s homeless population, communities across the country reported that fewer than 40,000 veterans were experiencing homelessness on a given night in January 2016. The January 2016 estimate found just over 13,000 unsheltered homeless veterans living on their streets, a 56 percent decrease since 2010. View local estimates of veteran homelessness.

This significant progress is a result of the partnership among HUD, VA, USICH, and other federal, state and local partners. These critical partnerships were sparked by the 2010 launch of Opening Doors, the first-ever strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness. The initiative’s success among veterans can also be attributed to the effectiveness of the HUD-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, which combines HUD rental assistance with case management and clinical services provided by the VA. Since 2008, more than 85,000 vouchers have been awarded and more than 114,000 homeless veterans have been served through the HUD-VASH program.

“We have an absolute duty to ensure those who’ve worn our nation’s uniform have a place to call home,” said HUD Secretary Julián Castro. “While we’ve made remarkable progress toward ending veteran homelessness, we still have work to do to make certain we answer the call of our veterans just as they answered the call of our nation.”

In 2014, First Lady Michelle Obama launched the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness with the goal of accelerating progress toward the ambitious national goal of ending veteran homelessness. More than 880 mayors, governors, and other local officials have joined the challenge and committed to ending veteran homelessness in their communities. To date, 27 communities and two states have effectively ended veteran homelessness, serving as models for others across the nation.

HUD and VA have a wide range of programs that prevent and end homelessness among veterans, including health care, housing solutions, job training and education. In FY 2015, these programs helped more than 157,000 people—including 99,000 veterans and 34,000 children—secure or remain in permanent housing. Since 2010, more than 360,000 veterans and their families have been permanently housed, rapidly rehoused or prevented from becoming homeless through programs administered by HUD and VA.

Louisiana Black Bear Removed From Endangered Species List

The Louisiana black bear is the state mammal for Louisiana, and it is one of 16 subspecies of the American black bear. While the American black bear can be found across North America, the Louisiana black bear subspecies is only known to occur in Louisiana, East Texas and western Mississippi. Compared to other black bears, the Louisiana black bear’s skull is longer, narrower and flatter, with larger molar teeth.

By 1980, more than 80 percent of the Louisiana black bear’s habitat had been modified or destroyed, and on January 7, 1992, the bear was listed as threatened within its historic range.

The mammal was removed from the Lists of Threatened and Endangered Wildlife under the Endangered Species Act due to recovery.

Recovery was made possible thanks to the active partnerships of many private landowners, state and federal agencies, universities and non-governmental organizations. Since the Louisiana black bear was listed in 1992, voluntary landowner-incentive-based habitat restoration programs and environmental regulations have not only stopped the net loss of forested lands in the Lower Mississippi River Alluvial River Valley, but have resulted in significant habitat gains.

A major factor in this positive habitat trend is the success of incentive-based private land restoration programs, such as the Wetland Reserve Program (WRP). Since 1992, more than 148,000 acres of habitat have been permanently protected and/or restored through the WRP program. Additional private lands have been restored through the efforts of private landowners and organizations. Over 65,000 additional acres of bottomland hardwood forest have been protected and restored through the efforts of such groups as Wildlife Mississippi, Mississippi Land Trust Mississippi River Trust, Black Bear Conservation Coalition, Bear Education and Restoration Group of Mississippi and the East Texas Black Bear Task Force.

Currently it is estimated that between 500 and 750 Louisiana black bears roam the United States, approximately double the population size at the time of listing. Techniques such as live trapping, winter den inspections, radio telemetry monitoring, and DNA sampling have been used to determine population size.

This is an Invitation For You to #LiveLove No Matter What

A friend of mine once said to me “wherever there is happiness, you can be sure love was there first.”

By the same token, experiences of sadness, injustice, violence, discrimination and anger that seem to abound also started out as a lack of love. The main antidote then, in my view, is for us to relentlessly and creatively find ways to nourish love back into our world. With that in mind, three months ago I launched a campaign called #LiveLove no matter what as an invitation for us to do precisely that, to live love, to breathe love, to celebrate love, to speak of love, to sing of love and to love love.

I believe there are small, medium and big ways to #LiveLove and all of them count since they add up. Such is the nature of love. As an artist, I like to write about love and to sing of love. As part of my #LiveLove campaign, I just published a video of my single “Other Side of The World” where I express that certainty that someone out there is waiting for me, just as I am waiting for them. It’s a song about the kind of love that can overcome any obstacle, even physical distance. It’s a song of soul mates. It’s about hope and the ability not to care if that makes me look like a fool. Because music can find its way directly to our hearts, I believe it is a powerful way to experience love.

Meditation, specifically morning meditation, is also an accessible way to #LiveLove. By starting the day focusing on our breath, we give ourselves a chance to step back from repetitive thought patterns, especially the destructive ones. On particularly tumultuous periods, I can hear some of those loud and disturbing thoughts. I acknowledge them and then I consciously replace them with a thought that is more aligned with the day I’m wanting to live. It’s a simple step but there’s a lot of love involved.

Another effective way that I have found to #LiveLove is to give myself mini-breaks throughout the day when I treat myself to something physical that makes me happy. My favorite treat is to dance. Sometimes I go for a short walk. It could even be that during my mini-break I finally realize I need to go to the restroom. I like to do something physical because I have a tendency to get stuck in a rational mode that leaves little to no space for love. By extending awareness to my body, I can recognize love when it comes my way and express it freely.

Exercise is also a powerful way to #LiveLove. Because most of us tend to have a love-hate relationship with exercise, I created a sustainable exercise routine. The main characteristic is that I make it flexible. My goal is to workout four times so I have three days off, every week. I have a few different workouts to choose from like running, walking and bodyweight training. The sense of choice I get from having a flexible exercise routine ensures that I stick with it. In the long run, a whole lot of love can be experienced from preserving our health and our body.

I also believe guarding our thoughts from negativity is crucial if we are to stop adding to the existing hostility in our world which is in itself an important way to #LiveLove. Turning off the television is an efficient way not to nourish destructive thoughts. In addition, with social media, we can now choose to broadcast little bits and pieces of hope, love and compassion through stories of people, like you and me, who believe in those things. Simple choices like watching movies that warm our hearts, listening to music that calms our soul, being selective of the thoughts we invite into our heads and meditating can play a decisive role in our ability to nourish love. After all, society – local or global – is nothing but a sum of all individuals that make it up. When individuals like you and I decide to #LiveLove, there is no stopping us. Cheers to love!

These veterans struggling with PTSD aren’t the only ones hurting – that’s why these birds and humans are taking care of each other.

The Serenity Park parrot sanctuary in Los Angeles, California pairs traumatized war vets with abused birds in need of love and care.

The love and dependency that forms between the two parties is tangible.

Ever since the sanctuary started encouraging the unique rehabilitation, it revealed such remarkable improvement, that group therapy and medication simply couldn’t compete.

Man Witnesses Kindness of Strangers After Old Man Falls Off of His Bike

What happened last night reaffirmed my beliefs that racial harmony is still strong in Singapore!

At about 7:30pm last night, I was about to chase a bus back home with my wife. Then I heard a woman yell “That old man fell down!”

My wife and I turned around and we saw that an old man had fallen off of his bike. We walked closer and realized he was bleeding. We then started sprinting.

I yelled to my wife to call the ambulance while I dug in my bag for a shirt. While I applied pressure to where he was bleeding on his head, he was shivering and muttering. I continued applying pressure and carried him over to a ledge for him to sit on. At that point in time, all I could think about was stopping his bleeding, as it had already went down to his shirt.

Out of nowhere, a few passerby came by to help:

1) a Chinese woman shielded the old man with an umbrella while asking the old man for his family member’s contact.
2) an Indian man came to us and took the old man’s bicycle aside (it was still in front of me).
3) a Malay man rushed to the nearest clinic and called the doctor for help.
4) a Bangladeshi man stood behind me to shield me and the old man from the rain while I was still applying pressure.

The scariest part for me was holding the shirt and feeling it getting heavier and warmer. I didn’t want to apply too much pressure and hurt the man nor did I want to be too soft and have the blood keep flowing.

Shortly after, the doctor showed up with an assistant, so I relieved my position and the doctor covered the old man’s wound with gauze. While this was happening:

1) the Malay man was constantly looking out for the ambulance.
2) the Chinese woman got a hold of the old man’s family and comforted the old man, telling him that they were on their way.
3) the Indian man gave his wet tissues to my wife so she could wipe blood off of the old man’s hand and face.
4) the Bangladeshi man was still using his umbrella to cover the old man and the doctor.

After what seemed like forever, the ambulance finally came to bring the old man and his grandson to the hospital.

I don’t even know the names of the people who helped me last night but I was truly touched and moved by the unconditional help of our fellow Singaporeans (and foreign help!)

What gave me hope that the elderly man would make it was that he was asking for his bicycle even when he was being put into the ambulance.

Thank you my wife Jenny Insyirah Farhanah Lim for calling the ambulance and telling them to come to the exact location and also wiping the blood off of his face and hands.

But most of all, thank you to those people who rushed over to help. I am extremely touched.

Even though Jeni Stepien’s father passed away in 2006, there was still a part of him that came back to walk her down the aisle.

Before her wedding on August 6th, Jeni tracked down Arthur Thomas – the man who had received her father’s heart as an organ donation.

Bold Villagers Come Together To Rescue Drowning Leopard From Well (WATCH)

No one in their right mind would want to go near a big cat in the wild, but these brave villagers weren’t about to let an endangered animal drown.

A farmer in Maharashtra, India overheard an animal’s fearful cry coming from within a 60-foot deep well. When he peered inside, he saw a terrified 4-year-old leopard clinging onto a rope above the water for dear life.

After they received the call for help, the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre arrived on the scene and – with a team of villagers at their side – sprung into action.

First, the group lowered a large wooden platform into the well next to the cat. Once it had crawled on, they eased a metal cage in to seal the deal.

Even though the leopard was wary of the contraption, it soon gave in to its exhaustion and climbed aboard.

Once wildlife specialists examined the animal and declared it unharmed, it was released back into its natural habitat.

Jessica Bean, due to her lifelong struggle with cystic fibrosis, prepared for the worst and married her childhood sweetheart when she thought there was no more hope for her condition – until she had a conversation with a health coach that changed her life forever.

In order to replace the calories she burned fighting to breath, the bride would often consume up to 4,000 calories a day by eating candies and sweets. Yet with only 30% of her lungs working and no hope for a transplant, the 21-year-old’s condition was dire.

Jessica became determined to plan a wedding between her and her fiancé Cameron in Queensland, Australia, even though she knew she might die soon after the ceremony – at least she would die a married woman.

As fate would have it,  her wedding photographer happened to be the wife of a health coach who suggested that maybe Jess just needed to lay off the sugar.

Instead of chocolates and lollipops, she started eating healthier fats like avocados and peanut butter in fruit smoothies.

The results were dramatic: Jessica’s lungs healed so quickly, her ER visits became fewer and fewer until they stopped althogether. In fact, the 28-year-old just celebrated an entire year without a trip to the hospita.

Jessica is now a happy health and wellness coach on Instagram who uses her own success story to encourage her clients to be more considerate of the substances they put into their bodies.

Delta Airlines Rescues Stranded Nigerian Olympic Team Free of Charge

The Nigerian men’s soccer team was dangerously close to missing their first chance at competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics, but thankfully, they had luck – and a good airline – on their side.

The team has been training for the big match in Atlanta, Georgia for months, yet because of the lack of travel in their home nation, the players arrived at the airport assuming they would be able to buy their tickets on the day of the flight.

That’s when they were told that all the flights to Brazil were fully booked.

Efforts to book a charter flight failed because the team of over 30 officials and players was too many people for any plane.

Delta Airline officials started scrambling to find a solution for the displaced team in time for their match on Thursday evening.

Finally, on Wednesday, airline workers discovered an NBA charter plane that was free to take the entire squad without having to bump passengers. Arriving just hours before their game against Japan, the Nigerian team was given the flight free of charge with a return trip home included.
