Motorcycle Heroes Pull 10 People From Cars as Black Smoke and Fire Engulf Highway

These music executives were simply on their way south for a motorcycle rally last week – they weren’t expecting to become heroes on the way there.

The 10-person crew was heading to South Dakota through Illinois when a semi-truck crashed full speed into a car that was stopped for construction vehicles on I-24.

The collision caused an 8-car pile-up that led to several gasoline leaks on the highway. As fuel spewed across the pavement, the motorcyclists – 2 of whom used to work as paramedics –leaped into action.

The bikers called 911, assembled onlookers, and started pulling drivers out of the damaged vehicles. After rescuing a family of six from their SUV and an injured trucker and his friends, they turned towards a woman who was trapped in her crumpled car.

When they failed to get her out of the car, they started dragging the whole heap of metal to safety by hand.

It’s a good thing that they did, too – immediately after they pulled the car into the grassy median strip, an explosion tore through the vehicles that had only just recently been filled with people.

Ten minutes after the collision, emergency vehicles arrived to treat the injured and extinguish the blaze.

“I knew it was going to blow up. That’s 100 percent. It just hadn’t blown up yet. It smelled like acid and black smoke,” Marc Oswald, co-founder of the Oswald Entertainment Group, told the Tennessean. “The fact that nobody died is a miracle.”

NYC Just Freed 640,000 People From Fear That They May Be Arrested For Minor Offenses

Over 640,000 people will no longer have to be afraid of being arrested for minor nonviolent crimes – such as walking a dog without a leash, open container drinking, littering, being in a park after hours, and spitting – that they committed decades ago.

The warrants were usually issued when the offenders failed to pay their fines or show up in court. District attorneys from Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx argued that these warrants would often hurt New Yorkers who would forget about the offenses, only to have them come back up years later in negative ways.

Offenders might find themselves under arrest after reporting a crime, or after calling in a fender bender. Potential employers might also see the warrant during a background check. Additionally, legislators said that the arrest warrants wasted valuable police time.

“The people who have these warrants have not been in trouble with the law for a decade or more, and it is time that they are given the opportunity to live productive lives, free from summonses hanging over their heads,” Darcel Clark, the Bronx district attorney, said in a statement.

“Someone who owes a $25 fine should not be arrested and brought down to central booking and spend 20 or 24 hours in a cell next to a hardened criminal. That’s not fair, and that’s not justice,” said acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, according to the Associated Press.

Baghdad Residents Fly Hundreds of Kites to Counter City’s Image

Baghdad has been ranked the worst capital city in the world to live in – but the founders of this kite festival are flying a special kind of flag that says otherwise.

The kite-flying festival, called Orshina (أورشينا ), was held in the Abu Nuas Gardens in May, in reaction to the global listing.

Muhammed, a Baghdad citizen, said the festival aims to show a different side of Iraq and the Iraqi people.

“All the world mentions [is] that Iraq is the country of the war, and it is represented as ISIS and bad things – but actually, no – Iraq is represented by life, love, and [all] good things,” Muhammed said.

“…Can you see how people love their life, and how they are brave, and how they always choose the best things?” he said.

“My best wishes for my country, and for the whole world.”

Over 1000 people attended the festival, and musicians and entertainers performed while organizers launched 365 kites.

Watch John Mayer Pay Tribute in This Moving Rendition of Iconic Glen Campbell Song

If John Mayer couldn’t become any more beloved, he is now being hailed for performing a very moving acoustic tribute to the late country singer and actor Glen Campbell.

During last night’s performance in Nashville for his Search For Everything tour, the musician crooned a soft rendition of “Gentle on my Mind” – one of Campbell’s most popular songs.

“I’m going to play this song with more love than precision. I play it because it’s my favorite song in the world,” Mayer told the crowd at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. “Whether I play it right or wrong, I’d rather have played it.”

Campbell, who is known for singing the hit songs “Gentle on my Mind,” “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Galveston,” and “Wichita Lineman”, passed away yesterday at the age of 81 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Campbell personally was chosen by John Wayne to be his co-star in the film True Grit. The guitar player also landed a TV variety show for a few years called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.

Man With No Arms Wins Gold at National Archery Championship

This man doesn’t need a hand in doing anything – not even winning gold at an archery competition.

Despite 35-year-old Matt Stutzman being born without arms, he just won first place at the target competition, and second place at the open compound final of the USA Archery Outdoor National Championships in Westfield, Indiana.

The father of three competes the same way that he hunts, parents, and drives a car – by using his feet.

Stutzman, who first started doing archery in 2009, hopes that his victory will put him on the map for joining the US Archery World Cup Team.

This is not Stutzman’s first athletic achievement, either – in 2012, the Paralympian won silver at the London games.

He now uses his triumphs to inspire others into pursuing their own dreams.

“If a guy without arms can get a bow and sit down and compete with the best in the world at a sport with them using their arms, what’s your excuse?” Stutzman told Fox 59. “Why aren’t you doing what you want to do? Get off the couch and get it done.”

When Passenger Asks to be Left at a Bridge, Uber Driver Intervenes Instead

If it had not been for the quick thinking of this Uber driver, a simple Monday night drive could have ended in tragedy.

41-year-old Chris Farley was called to pick up a young male passenger from his house in Gulfport, Florida around 8PM. While they were driving, the passenger told Farley that he had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer.

“I told him about my mother passing from cancer and we continued to talked about the disease for a few minutes,” says Farley. “I asked him if he was in school and he told me all about what he wanted to be.”

Then, Farley noticed something strange about the passenger’s destination.

“I noticed that the destination for this passenger was dead smack at the center of the Skyway Bridge…”

WATCHCrowd Hangs On to Suicidal Man For 2 Hours Until Help Arrives

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is a notorious spot for people committing suicide in Tampa Bay, as the bridge is over 200 feet high.

“So I asked him where he was going. He gave me the weirdest story that was not even close to being believable. He said that the ambulance wouldn’t take him all the way to Tampa and that his doctor told him to get to the top of the Skyway Bridge, pull over where the phones are and call [Florida Highway Patrol] and they would send an ambulance for him to bring him to his doctor.”

CHECK OUT: Previously-Suicidal Man Runs Marathon With Guy Who Talked Him Down From Bridge

Suspicious of his passenger’s motives, Farley asked the man to repeat his story to the bridge’s toll booth attendant and her supervisor.

“I made eye signals to her that something was up with my passenger. She said an ambulance can’t pick him up from the bridge, but he could make a call from the rest area to have the FHP come get him.

“I took him to the Skyway rest area and talked with him and he assured me that he wasn’t going to jump. I could tell he was lying.”

Farley then prayed with the passenger and asked if he could take a picture with him so he could remember his face for prayer later. In reality, the driver only wanted a picture of the man so he could send it to law enforcement officials.

RELATEDUber Driver Saves Teen From Sex Trafficking Ring

Once the man got out of his car, he dialed 911, explained the situation, and emailed them the photo of the passenger.

Police then arrived on the scene and found the man near a pier on the water. While the man tried to evade police by swimming into the water and drowning himself, they were able to pull him out, conduct CPR, and take him to the hospital for treatment.

Farley reportedly plans on visiting him in the hospital later this week.

“God put that man in my car tonight for a reason,” says Farley. “I’m just glad he is still alive.”

Celebrate Int’l Cat Day With This Video of Kitties Acting Like Meowllennials

In celebration of International Cat Day today, these meowlennials grabbed their catnip, hit the club, and got lit on some purrrfect margaritas.

But have no fear – no cats were intoxicated during the making of this meowvelous film.

In fact, the video of these furry youngsters was created as a means of drawing attention to the work of Kitty Bungalow: a California-based organization that rescues and socializes feral cats. Evite, a digital invitation company, created the film.

“This is an amazing experience with Evite and a great opportunity for the kittens at Kitty Bungalow,” the organization told Good News Network. “They have been studying really hard in their Drama Class to get ready for the national stage.”

“We hope our experiences and guidance can help others all across the country as our organization continues to grow and help the helpless street cats.

“Plus the kittens think they may have a chance at an Oscar and we don’t want to let them down!”

Evite Project Manager Julian Clark told Good News Network: “What else brings people together more than the love and companionship that comes from an animal – especially one you rescued?

“With that in mind, we decided to craft videos that would make people laugh, warm their hearts and hopefully get them to support a great cause.”

“The cats loved the lights. Like laser pointers, cats are usually attracted to sparkly, bright things that moved. It was our easiest set-up of the day, actually!

This Church Vowed to Bring Dignity to Homeless Folks by Building Tiny House Village Next Door

Anonymous Group of Adults Secretly Watches Over Struggling Youth of Their Town

Every good deed should be applauded, but some people simply don’t want the attention that comes with the spotlight – but they still yearn for a way to get involved.

That’s why this group of adults created an anonymous society dedicated to helping the youth of their struggling hometown.

The Secret Alumni Yellowjacket Society (SAYS) is an organization of adults who used to be residents of Fredonia, Kansas: a town described by the society’s president – who asked Good News Network for anonymity – as a suffering Midwestern city.

CHECK OUT: Anonymous Love Letters Lift the Spirits of Anyone Signed Up on Website

The president, who now works as a scientist at a university medical center, is just one of a couple dozen members of SAYS – all of whom are successful alumni over the age of 35.

“Most of our members are pretty successful and now are at a point in their life that they want to give back, but don’t want any public recognition,” she told Good News Network. “This is why we will never release our full membership roster. These folks don’t need to impress anyone, we don’t need the recognition and we don’t want any ‘thank you’s’. We simply want to respond when someone tells us there is a need.”

By coordinating alongside a few teachers, counselors, and the Fredonia Unified School District superintendent Brian Smith, SAYS helps to finance whatever academic or recreational resources the teachers and students may need in the struggling Midwestern town.

RELATED60 Schools Are Installing Washers and Dryers For Homeless and Troubled Students

“It could mean that we purchase sports shoes for kids who want to try out for sports, or teaching aids for teachers, or software that the school district cant afford.”

“We have a few members on the private Facebook page who will never address the community, but they want to see what we are doing and if they see a project that they feel strongly about, they will send me a private message and tell me that they will donate.”

Because the society is not a nonprofit organization, it is unclear how much money SAYS has donated to their hometown’s school system – but the president knows that they have donated at least $65,000 since they first formed in January.

Four SAYS members spent over $42,000 alone on a clothes closet that now provides free clothes, shoes, toiletries, and other school supplies to the students.

MORECompany is Offering to Retrain Coal Miners as Wind Farmers For Free

“The society wanted the room to be a “cool” place, well organized and decorated like a store, and more importantly, the members wanted to give kids that needed items to be able to go and get what they needed confidentially,” explained the president.

Other projects have included buying cameras for the schools’ journalism classes, an early learning center for pre-K students, a special olympics tournament, a prom dress giveaway, teaching aids for special needs children, and other smaller, more secretive projects that benefit individual students.

While one of the society’s key tenets is secrecy, not everyone from Fredonia can respect their privacy. The SAYS president first approached GNN after she says that she was rejected for a story by the editor of their local news outlet.

CHECK OUT: Jilted Bride Donates $30,000 Reception to City’s Homeless

“We have approached the local paper and they refuse … to publish a story about some of the things we have done to help teachers and students reach their full potential. As editor, her response to why she will not publish is, ‘she needs the members’ names, because otherwise it would be fake news’.”

But the society members refuse to be discouraged – they hope that by publishing the accomplishments of the organization, other schools and alumni will be inspired to create similar initiatives for their struggling hometowns.

“With 78% of children on financial assistance, it is evident that this little town struggles with many of the same issues seen in larger cities, those including drug use and the loss of industry that typically supports the town. We fill the gap between what is allowable expenditures through the state education fund and what is not allowable.”

“SAYS believes that every child has an innate desire to learn and that every child should be afforded that opportunity,” said another member of the organization. “It is our goal to foster learning desire by facilitating an environment within Fredonia schools that removes as many potential learning roadblocks as possible.”

Breakthrough Device Heals Organs and Skin with a Single Touch

These researchers have created a revolutionary device that can regenerate any kind of body tissue and repair injuries with just a touch to the afflicted area.

The device, which is only about the size of a penny, uses technology known as Tissue Nanotransfection (TNT) to inject genetic code into skin cells, turning those skin cells into any other types of cell required for treating diseased conditions; brain cells, vascular cells, nerve cells – anything a body might need to recover from an injury or sickness can be regenerated with the device.

“It takes just a fraction of a second. You simply touch the chip to the wounded area, then remove it,” said Chandan Sen, director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine and Cell-Based Therapies. “At that point, the cell reprogramming begins.”

In a series of lab tests, researchers from Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center applied the chip to the injured legs of mice that vascular scans showed had little to no blood flow. “We reprogrammed their skin cells to become vascular cells,” Sen said. “Within a week we began noticing the transformation.”

CHECK OUT: First Ever Quadriplegic Treated With Stem Cells Regains Motor Control in His Upper Body

By the second week, active blood vessels had formed, and by the third week, the legs of the mice were saved—with no other form of treatment.

“It extends the concept known as gene therapy, and it has been around for quite some time,” said study collaborator James Lee. “The difference with our technology is how we deliver the DNA into the cells.”

The chip, loaded with specific genetic code or certain proteins, is placed on the skin, and a small electrical current creates channels in the tissue. The DNA or RNA is injected into those channels where it takes root and begins to reprogram the cells.

MORENew Cancer Drug is So Effective Against Tumors, the FDA Approved It Immediately

In a new study published in Nature Nanotechnology, first author Daniel Gallego-Perez of Ohio State demonstrated that the technique worked with up to 98% efficiency.

“What’s even more exciting is that it not only works on the skin, but on any type of tissue,” Sen said. In fact, researchers were able to grow brain cells on the skin surface of a mouse, harvest them, then inject them into the mouse’s injured brain. Just a few weeks after having a stroke, brain function in the mouse was restored, and it was healed.

Because the technique uses a patient’s own cells and does not rely on medication, researchers expect it to be approved for human trials within a year.

“This young person has been facing his own difficulties in life and he was looking to straighten out all that by providing for his family and trying to get a job,” Jeyanesan told CP24 News.

The strained situation began in June over the mountainous Doklam plateau, a disputed mountainous region on the border of Bhutan, China, and India.

“I don’t want this title. I will give it back to Zulpikar,” said Singh after the ruling. “I don’t want tension on the border. It’s a message of peace. That’s important.”

Airplane Passenger Helps Arrest Child Predators After Glancing at Their Text Messages

An anonymous airline passenger is being hailed as a hero after she stopped a potential sexual assault by glancing at a fellow passenger’s text messages.

A preschool teacher was on a flight from Seattle, Washington to San Jose, California when she noticed that the man in the row in front of her was sending explicit texts about sexually abusing children.

Since the texts were in an especially large font on a sizable phone, the teacher was able to snap pictures of the texts and use them as evidence against the suspected predator: 56-year-old Michael Kellar of Tacoma, Washington.

RELATEDFlight Attendant Saves Teenager From Sex Trafficker

The teacher alerted Southwest flight attendants about the situation, who then contacted law enforcement authorities on the ground. After the plane landed, Kellar was taken into custody.

His text messages then led to the arrest of the woman with whom he was corresponding: a 50-year-old Tacoma resident named Gail Burnworth who had been babysitting two children ages 5 and 7.

If the plane passenger had not intervened upon seeing the messages, it is quite possible that the children would have been exploited by Burnworth or Kellar.

According to news sources, Kellar is being held at the Santa Clara County Jail, while Burnworth is being held at the Pierce County jail, both of whom are being charged with attempted child molestation and solicitation of sex crimes.

A couple of hours later, she’s intervening on quite possibly the most traumatic thing children can go through. This was life-altering for them.”

These Tobacco Filters Grow into Plants When Littered

While smoking rates are on the decline in some countries, there will always be those who’ll never quit the harmful habit—and cigarette butts will likely remain an eyesore, littering the world.

That’s why this company is trying to minimize the negative effects of smoking by selling biodegradable filter tips that plant seeds, instead of creating litter.

Karma Tips was created by ex-advertising representatives Chetana and Ved Roy of Bengaluru, India. Ved first got the idea for Karma Tips when he was working with a tobacco company and he learned about the list of chemicals found in commercial cigarette papers. The couple, who has worked for dozens of corporate giants in the past, quit their jobs so they could pursue creating low-impact cigarette materials.

Their handmade filters are 100% organic, biodegradable, and non-addictive, and are sold alongside a similarly improved book of rolling papers. When disposed of, the butt degrades in a matter of days and gives root to basil, New Zealand lawn grass, rosemary, or thyme.

In addition to being better for the environment, the filters are healthier for the smoker, because they are not exposed to the chemical-infused paper used by larger tobacco companies.

The Roys also employ roughly two dozen employees – most of which are women – from local villages to help make, package, and distribute Karma Tips. All the packaging used for the products are created locally, thus stimulating small village economies.

“The bags that contain the products are handwoven by a community of local weavers, using organic cotton and locally grown raw material. Even the ink we use for printing is food-grade, non-toxic, and made locally. These small initiatives go a long way in involving local and rural communities in the business, thereby helping them prosper,” Ved told Your Story. “After all, any business that makes only money, we believe, is a bad business.”
