These Wild Birds Get the Girls By Playing the Drums (See it to Believe it)

If their mohawks didn’t already make them attractive enough to lady birds, these extraordinary cockatoos attract mates by drumming with their own hand-crafted drumsticks.

The palm cockatoo, native to the Cape York Peninsula in far North Queensland, has been named “the Ringo Starr of birds”, as they have quite a knack for keeping the beat.

“The large smoky-grey parrots fashion thick sticks from branches, grip them with their feet and bang them on trunks and tree hollows, all the while displaying to females,” said Professor Heinsohn, from the ANU Fenner School of Environment and Society.

“The icing on the cake is that the taps are almost perfectly spaced over very long sequences, just like a human drummer would do when holding a regular beat.”

This rhythmic revelation that they can recognize a beat places the palm cockatoo in a category belonging to few other species in the animal kingdom.

“Each of 18 male palm cockatoos, known for their shyness and elusiveness, was shown to have its own style or drumming signature,” said Professor Heinsohn. “Some males were consistently fast, some were slow, while others loved a little flourish at the beginning.”

“Such individual styles might allow other birds to recognize who it is drumming from a long way away.”

While these feathered musicians may not be writing tunes about an octopus, they are adept at creating love songs as part of a courtship ritual meant to seduce a mate, according to a painstaking study.

This research is part of an ongoing investigation of the palm cockatoo, its mating habits, and habitat loss in New Zealand. Since the birds are notoriously skittish, scientists have been stalking the birds with a video camera for the last seven years.

Umpire Stops Woman From Committing Suicide Then Works in Stadium With View of Bridge

36-year-old John Tumpane has been been a baseball umpire for more than half of his life – but this week’s game in particular was one that he would never forget.

Tumpane was walking back across the Roberto Clemente Bridge on the Allegheny River towards his hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was just a few hours before the Pirates versus Rays game on Wednesday, and the umpire had just picked up some lunch.

As he was strolling along, he saw a young woman climb onto the other side of the railing.

Alarmed, Tumpane went over to the woman and casually asked her what was going on, so as not to frighten her.

“I just wanted to get a better look of the city from this side,” she replied, according to the umpire’s memory.

“Oh no,” Tumpane said, hooking his arm around hers. “You don’t want to do that. It’s just as good over here. Let’s go grab some lunch and talk.”

When she tried to tell him that she was fine and she wanted to stay there, Tumpane knew something was wrong. The umpire then hooked both of his arms around her torso.

The woman began crying and struggling against Tumpane’s grip, saying that she “just wanted to end it”.

After asking some nearby pedestrians to call 911, Tumpane continued issuing words of comfort.

“I was thinking, ‘God, this has got to be a good ending, not a bad ending,’ and held on for dear life,” said Tumpane, who has no training in suicide prevention or crisis management, according to the LA Times. “She said, ‘You don’t care about me.’ I said, ‘I care.’ She said, ‘I just want to end it right now. I want to be in a better place.’ I said, ‘You’re going to be all right.’”

Several other pedestrians held onto the woman as police arrived. Finally, the woman was properly pulled back over the rail and treated by medical assistance.

Tumpane continued to comfort the woman until he needed to get to work at the Major League Baseball game.

“It’s also hard when you stand back behind home plate and look and you see the bridge in the distance, In between innings and whatnot, just thinking of how things could have maybe been,” Tumpane said after the game. “Glad it was this way.”

Watch This Policeman Calm a Knife-wielding Assailant With a Hug

Most people who are confronted by a knife-wielding stranger aren’t able to keep their cool – but Officer Anirut Malee has become the definition of cool.

A desperate man carrying a large blade walked into the Huay Kwang Police Station in Bangkok, Thailand last Saturday.

Closed circuit camera footage shows Malee calmly talking to the man, and gesturing towards the knife. The details of the dialogue are unknown, but after about twenty seconds of conversation, the man hands the knife over.

Rather than arresting the assailant, Malee tosses the knife aside and wraps the man up in a bear hug.

The police officer later explained that the man was a musician and security guard who had fallen on hard times. Though it is unclear as to what he was trying to accomplish with the knife, Malee says that the 46-year-old had just endured the theft of his guitar and withholding of his paycheck for three days, which was “stressing him out”.

Malee offered his sympathy, and said that he would give the man his own guitar. They also agreed to go get lunch together sometime.

The man was then taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. No charges were filed against him.

20 Years Later, Man Fulfills Promise to Marry His Preschool Sweetheart

It was a match made in heaven – or rather, it was a match made in preschool.

Laura Scheeler and Matt Grodsky first met when they were just three years old. Despite his young age, however, Matt knew he was one day going to grow up and marry his buddy Laura.

“One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my pre-school class, declaring that I would marry her someday,” writes Matt via the Instagram account called The Way We Met.

“Laura taught me how to ride the swings, draw rolling hills, and the ‘right way’ to properly eat string cheese. We have fond memories of playing hide-and-go-seek, chasing after each other on the playground, and mischievously staying up during nap time.”

“Eventually, we lost touch upon entering our Elementary School days and for the next seven years, our family’s annual Christmas cards was the only way we ever saw each other’s faces,” says Matt.

Then, as fate would have it, Laura was in high school when she saw Matt’s number in her friend’s phone. The friend offered to set her up with that long lost playmate. Two weeks later, Matt and Laura were dating.

Despite going to different high schools and different colleges, Laura and Matt stuck it out over the long distance.

When they had been dating for several years, Matt decided to take Laura on a picnic date in front of the preschool where they first met in May 2015.

Then, he got down on one knee to keep the promise he made 20 years previously—and the two were married in December.

“I was enamored with Laura as a child,” says Matt, “and I still am to this day.”

Paramedics Stop to Do Right Thing After Seeing 98-Year-old Mowing the Lawn in the Heat

When these paramedics drove past an elderly woman mowing the lawn by herself in debilitating temperatures, they knew they had to turn around and do the right thing.

Paramedic Kent Haney and EMT Matt Linda of the East Texas Medical Center ambulance crew in Waco pulled their ambulance over in front of the senior’s house. After briefly chatting with her, Haney and Linda offered to finish mowing the lawn.

Despite Margaret Durham being 98 years old, she reportedly has been mowing her own lawn for years – but not on Wednesday.

Durham’s neighbor Dashlin James was working on his car outside when he saw the ambulance pull over in front of the senior’s house. Concerned for Durham’s health, he kept an eye on the scene until he saw the paramedics taking over the lawnmower.

Moved by the strangers’ kindness, James snapped a picture of the sweet scene.

“Definitely an act of kindness!” James told KWTX. “I thought it was a very great gesture of them, I mean, when they’re not saving lives, they’re out helping the community, it’s greatly appreciated and I’m sure she appreciates it as well.”

Now that Haney and Linda know about Durham, they say they will be checking up on her every so often in the future.

Dad of Bullied Boy Asks For Celebs to Wish Son a Happy Birthday, Amazed by Responses

All this English dad wanted for his son’s birthday was someone famous or esteemed to say some kind words about him – little did the father know that young Ollie was about to become the talk of Tinseltown.

Christopher, who is Ollie’s dad, first took to social media asking if celebrities could give his son a shoutout in recognition of his 9th birthday.

“Strange request. Anyone know anyone famous/well known who could send Ollie a positive/9th birthday message?” wrote Christopher. “The bully keeps saying to him that everything O has, he has bigger/better/more often. O excited for his birthday but keeps being told it won’t be as good as his own.”

“I would be so grateful and I appreciate it is an odd request. Just would love someone to tell him he does mean something,” he added.

Soon after Christopher published the tweets, he was inundated with love for Ollie.

Sports teams, police departments, television hosts, movie stars, politicians – even astronauts – all made special messages for Ollie.

Former Labor party leader Ed Miliband, as well as Canada’s first astronaut on the moon Chris Hadfield, American singer and actor Dionne Warwick, and the City of Manchester were among the thousands of well-wishers reaching out to Ollie.

Additionally, Ollie was sent personalized videos from Good Morning Britain, Jake Humpherey, Ben Shires of CBBC, and YouTube star Alfie Deyes. One of the illustrators from the Simpsons even sent a drawing of Bart Simpson saying happy birthday.

Oscar award-wining actor Russell Crowe wrote: “Hey Ollie, heard it was your birthday. 9 years old eh? Congratulations, Happy Birthday!!

The English Football Association invited the youngster to the games by saying: “Happy birthday, Ollie! Fancy coming to see us in September? Let us know and we’ll make it happen.”

Lewinsky, who is an outspoken advocate against bullying, wrote: “Happy birthday, ollie! we’re rooting for you to have a gr8 day… + rooting for you always. hang in there!”

The original thread goes on and on, but one thing is for sure – Ollie was given a birthday surprise that he will never forget.

NFL Player Spends Thousands so Kids Can Have Fun in the Sun For Free

Marshawn Lynch, newly-appointed running back for the Oakland Raiders, has just announced that he will be giving away 2,000 free waterpark tickets to his native city’s youth population this summer.

Starting on July 5th, Lynch’s Beast Mode apparel store will be handing out the tickets for the Raging Waters San Jose waterpark.

Since each ticket usually comes with a price tag of $29, the entire package is estimated to have costed Lynch $56,000. But, Lynch says it’s a small price to pay for giving joy to the kids of his hometown.

This is not the first generous act that the football player has shown to California’s children, either – Lynch has offered free haircuts to youths getting good grades, and hosted almost a dozen free summer clinics for underprivileged kids.

“When he comes back home, he’s genuine, he’s real. For kids looking up to him, for me looking up to him, we see it’s possible to get out of Oakland and do something positive,” said Seahawks rookie safety Ryan Murphy about his cousin Lynch.

Woman and Her Dog Singing “We Are the Champions” is Howling Good

James Corden may be famous for his carpool karaoke, but he might have to step up his game if he wants to compete with this dynamic duo.

Lola the Shiloh shepherd and Annie Aul were on their way from Montgomery, Alabama to Miami, Florida back in February when the ultimate singalong song came on: Queen’s 1977 hit “We Are The Champions”.

While Annie quietly mouths the words to the first verse by herself, Lola is snoozing in the back seat.

Then, when the drum kit comes in for the chorus, Lola suddenly sits up in her seat and starts singing along.

German Parliament Votes to Legalize Same-sex Marriage

Germany has finally joined the ranks of Western countries that have legalized same-sex marriage.

In an overwhelming vote, German Parliament voted 393 in favor, 226 against, while four lawmakers abstained. The new legislation will also give same-sex couples the same rights as heterosexual couples, including adoption.

German chancellor Angela Merkel voted against the measure “for personal reasons – however, she sparked controversy amongst conservatives when she announced that her personal stance on same-sex marriage had become less aggressive following a “life-changing event” in which she was openly welcomed to the happy home of a lesbian couple and their eight foster children.

The legislation is expected to take full effect by the end of 2017.

“It was a long, intensive, and for many also emotional discussion, that goes for me personally too, and I’m hopeful not only that there will be respect for either side’s opinions, but that it will also bring about more peace and cohesion in society,” said Merkel.

The vote comes just a week after German Parliament wiped the slate clean for over 50,000 gay men who were imprisoned under Nazi-enforced laws in the last century. They were also offered compensation for every year that they spent in jail.

Man Takes Mom on Bucket List Adventure as Redemption for Unappreciative Younger Years

Sian Pierre Regis is well aware of how he treated his mother Rebecca when he was younger – and he’s embarrassed by the way he acted.

Sian Pierre says that despite his mother working hard to put food on the table, he would often give her a hard time for not making more money.

Even though he was ungrateful as a child, however, Sian Pierre is making up for it now as an adult.

Rebecca called her son last summer and left a voicemail on his phone explaining that she had been fired from her job. She had been working for many years as a hotel maid in Boston, Massachusetts while raising her kids – up until they gave her the pink slip.

So when she lost her job, she didn’t know what to do with herself – but that’s when Sian Pierre stepped in.

In order to get his mother through her trying time, the young entrepreneur started helping Rebecca complete everything on her bucket list: such as take a hip hop class, milk a cow in Vermont, and walk the Boston Marathon.

The adventure has totally changed the duo’s relationship.

Cooper, who has become an internet star with his patented “Corgi Flop”, has wracked up over 12 millions views from adoring fans admiring his impeccable diving technique.

While you can tell that Cooper takes his athletics very seriously, it’s impossible not to giggle when watching him prep for his signature move.

Smile! Thousands of Veterans Given Dental Care Free of Charge

The dental care that some middle class Americans take for granted was certainly not lost on the grateful veterans who received free treatment last Saturday.

Over 450 Aspen Dental offices across 36 states opened their doors to the nation’s heroes this weekend, giving 4,600 veterans free dental treatment.

This is the fourth time that Aspen Dental has hosted a “Day of Service” event for veterans, resulting in over $10.3 million in donated dentistry.

“Like millions of Americans, veterans often do not get the dental care they need due to barriers like cost, fear, access and lack of insurance. Of the 21 million veterans across the U.S., fewer than 10 million are enrolled for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health benefits, and more than 1.2 million lack health insurance altogether,” said Dr. Adam Mileski of Aspen Dental.

“The disparity is even more pronounced when it comes to dental care because the VA only provides dental benefits to veterans who are classified as 100% disabled, have been a prisoner of war, or have a service-connected dental condition or disability,” he added.

While basic cleanings were also provided to the patients, the dental team were sure to address the more pressing services, such as fillings, extractions, and repairs, in order to relieve oral pain.

“My income didn’t allow me to afford dental insurance,” said Air Force veteran Nadine Nowlin. “So without any coverage, it’s the last thing that gets taken care of. To honor our veterans specifically on that day, is a gift from Aspen Dental.”

“Before seeing Dr. Thompson, I couldn’t even smile without severe pain and discomfort,” said Stephen Leon, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient who received free care from Dr. Thompson. “I can’t even put into words how thankful I am for Dr. Thompson. The treatment she provided changed my life – I don’t know how I can ever repay her.”

In addition to their Day of Service events, Aspen Dental’s Healthy Mouth Movement includes the “Mouth Mobile”: a 42-foot bus that travels around the nation offering free dental care to veterans. The Mouth Mobile has already traveled to over 100 communities, giving away thousands of dollars worth of free oral treatment.

Workers Buy Toy Panda For Little Boy After Seeing Pleading Note Scribbled on Box

This little boy couldn’t bear to part with a toy panda that he saw in a store – but thanks to the kindhearted employees, they weren’t separated for very long.

10-year-old Leon Ashworth and his mother Debbie were browsing the shelves of the Asda supermarket in Liverpool when Leon first spotted “Pandy”: a fuzzy little stuffed panda bear that cost less than $10.

Debbie, who works as an intensive care nurse, reluctantly told Leon that she couldn’t afford to buy him the panda until she received her paycheck the next week.

“I’m always in the store and a week ago I came in to pick up some essentials. Leon spotted this panda – he just seemed drawn to it and said ‘mummy can I please have this panda?’” said Debbie. “I explained to him that I didn’t have enough money – it was just before payday, you know what it’s like. So I told him we would come back next week after I’d been paid and get it as long as he was a good boy.”

Heartbroken, Leon then placed Pandy in a cardboard box and scribbled a note on the front in pencil.

“He then put the panda in the box and put it back on the shelf,” explained the mother. “I didn’t actually see what he’d written at that time. I didn’t think much more about it and I just thought someone would take it out of the box and put it back on sale.”

The note read: “My mum didn’t have enough money to buy me Pandy so she’s buying me Pandy on 15th June so please don’t buy him as it will make me cry. Thank you so much from Hopeful Future Owner.”

Later that day, the store’s section leader David Bateman saw the note – and he was moved to take action, along with the rest of the employees.

The staff all chipped in to buy Pandy and take him off of the shelf. Then, they published a post on Facebook asking if anyone knew the identity of the youngster responsible for the note.

The post spread on social media until it was picked up by local news platform the Liverpool Echo.

“A few days later I was flicking through Facebook and I saw the Echo’s post about it. I hadn’t realized until then what Leon had written – he’d really poured his heart and soul into his message! He’s like that – he wears his heart on his sleeve,” said Debbie.

The mother then reached out to the store and explained that her son was the mystery author of the note. The next day, Leon and Debbie went back to Asda where the boy and his toy were joyfully reunited.

The results were magical.

After the happy event, Debbie said: “I was getting all emotional seeing Leon with Pandy, and Leon was welling up too. It’s so lovely that they took the time and cared so much to make sure Leon got Pandy.”

Customer service representative Kelly McEvatt told Asda: “Debbie said ’I’ve come in to pick up my son’s panda!‘. The moment I handed the panda over was brilliant – to see Leon’s face was just wonderful. It’s the best moment I’ve had working here.”

“When we spotted the panda and the message on the box in the toy aisle all of the colleagues just fell in love with the whole idea of it,” said David. “We’re all absolutely made up about it – Debbie has been messaging me to express how grateful she is.”

English Village Asks Arab Prime Minister to Help Buy Community Center – and He Said Yes

Though there may be miles of separation between this little English village and the bustling city of Dubai, they may be closer in spirit than originally thought.

The village of Godolphin Cross in Cornwall has been raising money to buy their local methodist church so they can convert the building into a full-fledged community center. The villagers has been desperate to save the facility, as its already the closest thing to a community center that they have.

However, the whopping real estate sum of $115,000 was too much for the little community to afford on their own. Despite managing to raise a third of the finances through multiple fundraising efforts, Godolphin Cross still came up short.

Then, back in November, the villagers made one last appeal to one of their very distant acquaintances: the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai.

The connection between the Emir and Godolphin Cross goes back to the 18th century. As well as being the Prime Minister, the sheikh also happens to be the head of a horse racing empire. The Godolphin Arabian was a racing horse that was bred in the tiny English village of Godolphin Cross in 1724. All of the sheikh’s racing horses are considered direct products and descendants of that first breed, according to Cornwall Live.

So when they reached out to Sheikh Mohammed in November, they were overwhelmed when he agreed to cover their financial shortfall.

“We can’t thank Sheikh Mohammed enough and we’d love to see him in this neck of the woods any time. He would be assured of a very warm welcome,” association chairman Richard McKie told Cornwall Live.

“I think this shows that he’s interested in the history and values this Cornish link. He has put his money to help a community staring down the barrel of having nowhere to go for community events. We are thinking of using part of the chapel to explain about the link.”

Canadian Students Celebrate Nation’s Birthday in Breathtaking Face Paint Tribute

In celebration of Canada’s 150th Birthday next week, over 200 Canadian and International youths came together to create a message of peace and diversity by painting the flags of the world on their faces.

Using makeup as their medium, these creative young people are aiming to inspire mutual understanding and love worldwide. The result is an awe-inspiring 60-second film called the Peace Flag project.

Over the span of a year, and with the help of the faculty and staff at CMU College of Makeup Art & Design, the Peace Flag project came to life.

Pamela Earle, the CMU College President who spearheaded the project, said: “This video was originally inspired out of sympathy, in solidarity with the victims of tragic worldwide events, but it quickly morphed into a message of hope. We can’t think of a better way to mark Canada’s 150th birthday than to share this powerful message and project created by CMU students with the world.”

Dog Who Achieved Fame Following Runner Through Race Lands Book and Movie Deal

This scruffy pup made headlines last year after she followed a runner through a 7-day race across rigorous Chinese terrain.

By the end of the race, Gobi wasn’t just rewarded with the runner’s adoption – she now has her own biography, as well as a movie deal with 21st Century Fox.

Dion met Gobi the dog on the second day of the 2016 Gobi March 4 Deserts in China. Gobi had been keeping up with the other 101 competitors the day before, but eventually decided to stick with Dion.

“She would run ahead of me and wait for me 20 or 30 meters down the road and then I’d have to catch up with her,” Dion told Good Morning Scotland. “She’s such a small dog but has a massive heart.”

Even though the competition was grueling, Gobi matched Dion step-for-step, leading to the two becoming fast friends.

No one can really figure out why Gobi picked Dion as her human, but once the race was finished, he was determined to take her home with him to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Since the dynamic duo arrived in the UK, they have been nearly inseparable. The two have embarked on a book tour for Dion’s memoir “Finding Gobi”, published in hardcover, paperback, and picture book format.

As for the rest of the funds on Dion’s crowdfunding page that were used to pay for Gobi’s quarantine and transportation from Asia, the runner paid it all forward to a Chinese animal rescue organization.

That way, he can help take care of the next pooch who needs a home like Gobi.

Car Dealership Saves Kitten Trapped in SUV

There’s no lesson in driver’s ed that prepares you for when your car starts meowing in traffic.

But that’s exactly what happened to Jean Puegh when she pulled up to a stoplight in Grand Haven, Michigan.

Even though no one knows how it got trapped, a tiny striped kitten had gotten stuck in the wheel well of Puegh’s Chevrolet Encore.

The SUV owner called 911 and asked them what do to do about the poor feline. The operator suggested she take the car to a dealership and see if the mechanics could retrieve the kitten.

Sure enough, Puegh took her car to the Preferred Chevrolet dealership. In a matter of minutes, the mechanics were able to safely dislodge the kitten from the wheel well. Though it seemed a little startled, the cat was declared unharmed.

Additionally, the adventurous little feline was adopted by Sara Weeber, the employee who filmed the event.

And what is the pawesome name they chose for the stowaway? Sara decided to name him Encore after the model of the SUV he was rescued from.

Wild Horses Finally Return to Homeland 50 Years After They Vanished

These wild horses have been bred in captivity since they were driven to extinction in their homeland – but now, roughly 50 years later, they’re running across the Mongolian plains once more.

The Przewalski’s horse is the only equine species that has never been domesticated. It’s extinction from the Mongolian wild is credited largely to harsh winters, human interference, and military activity from WWII.

One determined group of conservationists, however, kept the species alive through several breeding programs in the Czech Republic, and other European countries. The first Przewalski’s horses to be released back into the desert were four mares airlifted to the Gobi desert in the 1990s, according to Reuter’s.

The Prague Zoo has reportedly released 27 horses from their breeding program. A 2011 survey from the International Union for Conservation of Nature estimated the equine population to be about 300, changing the status of the species from “Endangered” to “Critically Endangered”. It was originally listed as “extinct in the wild” in 1966.

“It is clear to me that society now has the capability to reverse species declines,” says Prof Jonathan Baillie, Director of Conservation Programs at Zoological Society of London. “Fundamentally, it is our values that need to change if we are to avert the looming extinction crisis.”

The “success story” of the Przewalski’s horse will be continued as the population steadily rises. The more recently released horses will be monitored by conservationists to ensure that they properly adjust to their surroundings before being given total freedom over the desert.

How an App Saved This Woman’s Unborn Baby

Smart phones may be heavily criticized for their distracting qualities, but this maternity app just saved the life of a woman’s unborn child.

Emily Eekhoff first downloaded the “Count the Kicks” app when she was 28 weeks pregnant.

The app is designed to monitor the health of unborn children by recording the frequency of a baby’s kicks. A healthy baby is supposed to be kicking a fair amount every hour – but then, when Eekhoff became 33 weeks pregnant, the constant kicking stopped.

Concerned over the lack of movement, the 26-year-old mother went to the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, Iowa to get checked out.

It’s good that she did, too – doctors found that the baby had a heartbeat, but no fetal movement. They immediately performed an emergency cesarean section. When Eekhoff’s daughter was delivered, it had the umbilical cord wrapped three times around its neck.

If Eekhoff hadn’t recognized the danger, the baby could have been stillborn.

But after receiving oxygen post-delivery, however, Ruby weighs in at 4 pounds and 3 ounces – and she is doing wonderfully.

The Count the Kicks app was designed by four women who all lost unborn children to similar situations. Eekhoff has thanked the creators profusely, saying that if it weren’t for their innovation, she would be mourning the death of her infant, rather than celebrating.

Police Officer Saves the Day by Jumping onto Runaway Horse Wagon

This police officer must have impeccable timing – because he managed to jump on the back of a horse-drawn carriage going 25 miles an hour, thus saving the day.

Sgt. C. Otis Smith and other members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol were called out to Route 250 on Sunday morning for a peculiar reason: a horse-drawn Amish buggy was barreling down the wrong lane without a driver.

As the horse continued dashing down the westbound road, officers feared that the horse would run into the busier highways and cause serious damage – or worse.

The team then got out of their parked squad cars and started waving their hands at the horse, saying “woah!” in hopes of stopping the horse. When they saw that it wasn’t slowing down, however, Smith knew he had to act fast.

With only a second to act, Smith waited until the carriage passed him so he could jump onto the buggy as it barreled past. Smith then used the reins to ease the horse into stopping.

Though the horse immediately collapsed to the ground in exhaustion, it was later taken to a veterinarian and declared unharmed – it was just tired.

The owner later stated that the horse had run away from its home in Apple Creek, Ohio, galloping almost 10 miles down the highway before being reined in by Officer Smith.

Smith said he had never considered the consequences of how he could have made the wrong move – his only concern was making sure that everyone was safe.
