82-Year-old Woman Finally Finds Long Lost 96-yo Birth Mother (WATCH)

Reunited Mother and Daughter - Screenshot

This 82-year-old daughter is a prime example of why it’s never too late to reconnect.

Ever since her adoptive parents passed away 50 years ago, Betty Morrell has been searching for her birth mother with no results – until now.

With two decades of help from her now 32-year-old granddaughter Kimberly Miccio, who used the internet, Morrell not only managed to find out that her birth mother was still alive at age 96, but also living in a Hallstead, Pennsylvania nursing home.

Her mother, Lena Pierce, was only 13 when she birthed Betty – originally named Eva May. Since Lena was a ward of the state in Utica, New York, Eva May was taken by social services and put up for closed adoption to a family on Long Island.

Once Betty tracked down Lena, she only needed to make a quick call to Lena’s daughter Millie Hawk in Windsor, New York to make plans.

One plane-ride later, and a tearful reunion ensued.

Since Betty grew up without any siblings on Long Island, she not only experienced the joy of reconnecting with her long lost birth parent, but also with two brothers and four sisters she never knew she had.

Consisting of essential oils, alcohol, distilled water, and glycerine, the concoction will be marketed in Mexico City where high temperatures and humidity create ideal living conditions for the Aedes aegypti mosquito which is a carrier that may cause any of the three illnesses.

Their product combines orange peel, lavender flowers and lemon grass – which contain the essential oils and compounds of citronella, limonene and linalool, according to Mexico News Daily.

Marketing plans are currently underway, and because of the rapid spread of the Zika virus, the college students plan on making the environmentally friendly repellent 60% more affordable than competing sprays so that all citizens of Oaxaca can be protected.

Year of the Monkey Promises Improved Finances, If You Watch Out for Monkey Business

Year of the Monkey CC Leonard Bentley

You don’t have to believe in astrology to predict that “The Year of the Monkey” will begin with travel for 2 billion people traveling home–in the world’s largest migration–to celebrate the Asian New Year.

The Chinese New Year kicks off Monday marking the beginning of the Year of the Monkey, but the government has declared the entire week, February 7 to 14, a national holiday to accommodate the rush of people heading home for annual celebrations.

UPLIFT YOUR WHOLE YEAR… WITH OUR GOOD NEWS APP—>  Download FREE for Android and iOS

The Chinese horoscope calls for the year ahead to deliver improvements in money and politics but warns of an abundance of deceptions and chicanery.

There are twelve animals representing the Chinese Zodiac, each supposedly endowing people born under their signs with certain qualities. People born in years under the mischievous monkey sign are problem solvers, youthful, and playful.

Celebrities born in monkey years include Eleanor Roosevelt, Mick Jagger, Little Richard, Pope John Paul II, and Elizabeth Taylor.

How will the other Chinese astrological signs fare in the year of the Monkey? This is a generally positive year for Rats, Oxen, Dragons, Horses, Monkeys, Roosters and Dogs.

But 2016 could be a difficult year for Tigers, Snakes, Dogs and Boars, if they are not careful. Rabbits should beware their finances. Sheep should take care of their health– see more horoscopes here.

And regardless of your sign, expect delays at Chinese railway stations this week.

World’s First Pups to Sniff Out Fire Ants and Help Eradicate Them

Dog Sniffing - CC Bisayan Lady

If you’ve never been bitten by a fire ant, consider yourself lucky; the small light brown insects are known for painful stinging bites and destroying whatever environment they infest.

Luckily for Australia, a team of the world’s first fire-ant-sniffing pooches are on the job.

The National Red Imported Fire Ant Eradication Program has never had a problem getting rid of the actual insects, but tracking them down is the hard part. Since a dog’s sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than that of a human, the canines have been leading exterminators to any fire ant colonies that need to be terminated in central Queensland.

The nine dogs trained to do the sniffing are given an ant pheromone to track.

If no more fire ant colonies are reported in the Gladstone region, it will be the fastest eradication program in the world – completed two years ahead of schedule.

Football Player’s Unbreakable Bond with the Teammate He Paralyzed

Ohio State wheelchair and Kurt Coleman

When Kurt Coleman took the field in Super Bowl 50, a former teammate who became paralyzed because of Coleman’s tackle was rooting hard for the Panthers.

The Carolina safety, in part, was playing for Tyson Gentry. The two men have formed an unbreakable bond since Coleman’s routine hit broke Gentry’s neck when they played together at Ohio State.

This is the story of a remarkable relationship that sprung from that horrific accident 10 years ago.

“Obviously,” Coleman said last week at the Panthers’ training facility, “you can never brace yourself for the impact of severely hurting somebody and paralyzing them for the rest of their lives. He’s one of the greatest men that I’ve known through what he’s done and the person that he’s become.”

During the start of his senior year Gentry rolled his wheelchair into a new class and met a woman who had been sitting in one of the handicap desks because she came late and it was in the back row.

“If Ty didn’t break his neck, we wouldn’t have met, wouldn’t have gotten married,” Megan told ESPN. “We’re huge believers in everything happens for a reason.”

They’re expecting a baby boy in mid-March. His name will be Adam Cole Gentry– Cole for Coleman.

Ordinary People in Convoy of Trucks Quench Thirst in South African Drought

Operation Hydrate composite photos FB

Ordinary people have responded in an extraordinary way to the worst drought in decades ravaging much of South Africa.

Since launching Operation Hydrate in January, they have delivered more than six million liters of water to grateful residents and become a lifeline to communities suffering from a lack of rain during the five-month heat wave.

41 tractor-trailer trucks left Johannesburg in convoys one Friday in February to carry the latest donations of 1.2 million liters of water into places like Senekal and Swartruggens.

“You know, we can’t just see what’s happening and sit back,” Coordinator Yaseen Theba told SABC 3 News. “We started collecting water–and collecting funds so we can get it to these areas.”

The project had received immense support from the public, raising more than $3 million. Over the past 2 days, 1500 volunteers assisted with water collection and distribution in four provinces as well as preparing more loads for drought-stricken areas.

Mango Airlines and ShopRite have partnered with the group to provide more money and volunteers, while support later this month has been pledged by Coca-Cola. Also backing the grassroots effort are the Nelson Mandela Foundation, other nonprofits, NGOs, local schools, and even professional cricket sporting teams and their fans.

Former child brides have struck a blow for future generations of women and children — taking their case to Zimbabwe’s highest court and winning a ban on marriage for anyone under the age of 18.

A lawyer for the two said the court decision “deals a decisive blow to the exploitation of children” and called on Zimbabwe’s legislature to set penalties for for the practice.

Nearly one-third of girls in Zimbabwe marry before their 18th birthday — some even before they turn 15  — when parents arrange their marriages.

The Constitutional Court’s ruling on January 20 banned marriage and other customary forms of unions for anyone under the age of 18. It also struck down a law that let girls marry at 16, but required boys to be at least 18.
